Ha ha naughty Gene :D Why not buy your towels once you get there. We always leave sun cream, shower gel and stuff when we are coming home, that leaves room for bringing extras back.

A wee warning re Alisons suggestion, you can only do this after you get through airport security, and not all airports have a Boots, ect. once you do get through.

Hi Folks

I like Genes idea so far  :D We usually leave the suncreams etc over there and I do try and minimize the clothes that we take as we always buy loads of stuff over there. Its just that the girls (the 14 year old especially) always needs to take things "just in case"!!! Oh well i will seriously ponder over Genes advice!!!!!!!!

I am taking more dresses this year, summer weights so really light. Only 2 pairs of sandals for the evening (usually 4-5). Buying beach towels when I get there. Will get toiletries at the airport or in Turkey, except sun lotion.

Don't take too much underwear.... I found we really only need about 4 pairs of knickers..... rinse them out and theyre dry in a few hours. Hubby doesn't take much in the way of socks either. This leaves plenty of room for the rest of the clothes and, of course my shoes

I think you need to realisticly think what you are actually going to wear. I have just come back from benidorm. Got charged £18 each going out on excess baggage. Took a change of clothes for every day and night. and only wore 3 pairs of shorts in the day and same for t-shirts. And about 4 change of clothes for night.

Also depending who you are flying with, we were alos allowed 10kg hand luggage so I bought a small holdall while was there and they didn't even weight that.

I have a ski bag, which is so light in comparison to any suitcase. ...designed for heavy luggage. Yes, it does have wheels and a pull out handle. I have never been overweight going skiing, and that includes ski boots, ski gear and lots more. So I have just decided that I will take my ski bag to Icmeler. Hopefully there will be no snow in Icmeler....ha ha.

Postby celine2002uk » 27 Apr 2008 06:44

We have just come back from Marmaris they was me my 18th year old daughter and her friend we got to Dalaman airport and got charged £108 they said we were over weight?
We go to Turkey 3 times a year so i know roughly if we are over or not and yes one case was a bit over but not to excessive
I argued with the man at checkout but would not have none off it appartently he charged nearly every one in his queue.
I asked for a reciept only to be told no cant have one he then gave me £10 back and said go go.
We did buy a few bits but not a lot in Marmaris plus my daughter bought shoes and jeans but there went in her hand luggage which he never even asked if we had any
I personally think there do rip people off when we left England to travel to Dalaman we were all under the weight allowance we left all toiletries sun creams over in Marmaris so just be carefull on your weight allowance just wish there was a way to complain about this i did ask but there played dumb when i said i wasnt happy i think thats why he gave me a tenner back :x

We have just bought a set of fishing scales the sort you hang things from with a weight limit of 22kgs,only cost us about a fiver on Ebay but we will know what weight is in our suitcases no guesswork, and no waiting to see if we are going to be charged an excess at the Airport, and if they try you can argue the point if you wish.

I always over pack, but was good the last time.

Always make sure your tops and bottoms can be mixed and matched and you can reduce the amount you take quite a bit.

I will definately only be packing one weeks worth of clothes and washing and wearing them again the following week.

Shall either wash ours at our apartment or go to the laundrette, going on what I've read on here it's really cheap, they wash it dry it and iron it all and you get it back the same day.
