Worried Wife

After abit of advice really.

Mrs Sirk is expecting our first child, and she will be 16 weeks when we travel. She has been having a real rough time of it, with the old Morning sickness and what not, but after taking some meds she seems to be getting over the majority of it now.

Problem is she is now worried that if she feels rubbish over there, or has any other problems what are the medical facilities like. A couple of years ago, I was ill and had to go to a doctors in marmaris and it wasn't an experience I would want to go through again, and especially as she is a worried, hormanal pregnant woman hehe.

Has anyone been unfortunate enough to have to visit the medical facilities in Icmeler/marmaris and is there a main decent Hospital/Clinic that I can tell her is out there to reassure her.

From what I understand the locals use the pharmacy and if it is nessesary they will advise the Doctor/Hospital
I had a gastric problem whilst there in April Pharmacist sorted it out

Thankfully I have not had to experience any medical facilities such as the Doctor or Hospital but as Womble says, the Pharmacies are absolutely brilliant. The staff are very helpful and the medicines are cheap.

I have had 2 experiences over their with hospitals, the 1st one was in marmaris in 2002 they were very good, I think the ambulance was a bit over the top though , then last year I ended up at the hospital by the market, I thought they were very thorough and asked me to pop in several times whilst I was there last year just to make sure I was ok. Briliant service. Cannot fault the chemists either.
But this year I am going well prepared

I agree with Sue, a couple of years ago my mum had something gotten into her ear, we were recommended to go the little hospital near the market by Salman our friend.

They sorted us out very quickly, I had a nosey round the place while no one was looking, it was very clean and well equipped.

They drove us back to the hotel and en route woke up the local pharmacist (it was 2am) to get mums pills and told us to pop back several times for check ups.

Excellent service.

Have to agree with what has been said about the pharmacists my mum has had stomach problems and problems with mozzie bites which have ended up with her arm swollen like a balloon and have to say the pharmacists were excellent and was back to her normal self before long.

I had a good snoop round, forgot to take my camera with me, but went back the next day to take a picture of the outside off it

In 2002 I had a high temperature and asked the reception where the nearest hospital was and the next minute and ambulance turned up and off i was to marmaris for an injection up the backside, the next day every one on the beach was talking about the ambulance rushing through icmeler with the sirens going which was rare then, i felt so embarresed when i told them the story Forgot my camera then also

Hi we had to use the medical facilities 2 years ago.Our little girl who has Down's Syndrome and has a heart condition and asthma took ill with quite a bad chest infection.The service we got was far better than any we have recieved in the UK.She had to go to the hospital in Marmaris and they treated her with respect and dignity at all times which is something which doesn't always happen back at home. We were seen very quickly and everything was explained as they carried out the necessary treatment .Don't worry about the language barrier as we were appointed a girl who spoke English and she stayed with us the whole time.Although to be honest there was no need for her as all the staff spoke excellent english.Wouldn't want to make a habit of visiting the medical services while on holiday but all I can say is they are excellent. Hopefully you will have a great holiday and not need to use them.

Stupid I know but make sure your travel insurance company know about the pregnancy,they will use any excuse if you do need medical treatment while you are there to not pay out.

Thankfully we both work in the insurance industry, and have made sure the policy covers her. It was just her fear of having to go to some grotty little doctors backoffice where no one speaks the Queens.

I would def reccomend the clinic near the market. I lived in Icmeler and broke my toes two seasons in a row!! Once involving a cat the second involving ABBA!!!!
I was treated first at Ahu Hetman in Marmaris but after that I used the clinic in Icmeler.
I also used DR Bora in Marmaris many many times! He is located just after migros on the roundabout opposite Blu Bays hotel. Speaks excellent english, very calming and patient anf really really helpful.

My own doctors is at the Caria hospital/clinic and is situated just opposite Cafe Anne and next to the one time Anatolia cafe now the Elvis cafe

we've also has the misfortune to have to visit the Drs several times - chest infection, mozzie bites, perforated eardrum and (I kid you not) severe sun allergy ha ha

our Turkish friend recommended the one near the market on the Marmaris road (same side as the Weds market) and that's the one we've always been to since

each time we had to pay return visits for check ups and were charged £50 in total for the treatments which sorted us out in no time. spotlessly clean and very caring English speaking staff

I'd recommend you pay a visit to the pharmacy first though as they will only refer you to the Dr if there is nothing over the counter available

From recollection teh one we use has a red and white sign - if you go to the top of the Main Road at the Tansas end where it meets the Marmaris Road it's just to the left on the same side as but before you get to the School

Hi, Having lived in Marmaris for 11 years and been a rep for many i have had quite a lot of experience with the hospitals here - 2 operations and various other things! The treatment has always been excellent. I was also here throughout my pregnancy and the treatment i received was far superior to anything in the UK which is obviously partly to do with the fact you pay for it! I generally go to the Ahu Hetman though i have been to the Caria as well and both have always been great - spotlessly clean, very quick and translators whenever necessary. But yes the ambulances can be slightly dramatic lol! Hope this helps anymore questions feel free to ask.
