Bad Manners

I did much prefer it last year as there wasn't as much hassle you felt more able to walk down the street, lets hope its much the same this year.

If people are like us we try to not go in empty restaurants and bars always think there must be a reason for it,but we have gone in one or two that were empty and soon after more people came in wether it was the fact that they saw other people in there or they were heading for there anyway I don't know,I have noticed the hassle has got worse in Turkey we went the first time in 1997 to Marmaris and the people were great no hassle just polite excuse me's except for one day we went to the market and were hassled something ruthless and he did end up swearing at us it turned out he had moved to the UK to London,where he had lived for a while and had just moved back to Turkey wether he had a chip on his soldier I don't know but that was one incident in a 2 week holiday now it does seem to be getting worse last year we were in Altinkum and there were a few places that would not take no for an answer they would follow you down the street trying to get you to go back it was very off putting and as we had small children with us we had to be careful where we ate so the children had somewhere to play,I just hope it is not going to be like that in Icmeler the only hassle we had there in 2005 was the barber trying to get us to have a shave will have to shave more this time.

I've also looked at sites like holiday truths and have had all my reviews published good (about Icmeler of course) and bad (that would be Bulgaria). I missed the chance last year to chat to some of the bar owners as they were afraid to talk to you, that was one of the things we liked when we first went to Icmeler. As people have said a polite no was all it took and we never had any trouble. Seven weeks today we'll be on our way!!!

Thanks Ron, it is the people who really hassle that you put you off going near that area and then other bars suffer (as well as us as we don't get to see what else is in that area) from us not spending our money in their bars/restaurants.

5 weeks tomorrow and I'll see what it's like for myself getting excited now.

The website I looked at did have 98% positive reviews for Icmeler, and only a couple of bad ones.

Hi guys

I used to be a front of house manager for a hotel in the UK. I have always said this as have experienced it first hand. Some people just like to complain and will find an excuse to complina if they can. I have read some of the reviews mentioned before, and I think this is he case with some of them.

i allways feel sorry for some of the places are empty we went to dream boys one night it was packed their is a resturant next to it forgot the name they said come in for a drink we said later felt sorry we had our meal stayed awile i said lets go and have a drink next door he came rushing over thanked us for coming we ended up their the next night what was the name of the place anyone remember lynn

Lynn is that the one on the corner that sold chinese,indian and mexican food.We ate there a night had a lovely meal and excellent service.With no hassel.

I too have always had respect shown in Marmaris and Icmeler, with the exception of the dreaded Baron guy, but last year I actually threatened him with calling the Police about his hassle.

He was so rude one evening as me and my Husband walked past. He offered us to eat in the restaurant, and I replied, "No thanks, (very politely) we are meeting friends in Marmaris for dinner".

Wow, thats when he started. I was so angry I just walked away without saying anything to him, but after thinking about it all that evening and the next morning, and also feeling very upset, I returned that afternoon just to tell him how I felt about him and if he ever spoke to me like that again, I would report him to the Police.

He ignored me each time I passed after that. Thankfully!

The guy who fronts the restaurant next door to Titanic is extremely rude...and whats more...he's quite proud of the fact. I heard him tell a large woman last year she should try one of their salads as 'she needed it'!

At 20 stone and 6ft 5 i just give him the glare and he dont bother us!

My first time in Icmeler last year (and certainly not the last). When I visited the Forum last year before I had my holiday I was a wee bit concerned becuase I had read a few posts about 'hassle'. Then I had my holiday and I realy didn't think I was hassled at all - apart from the famous guy at the Baron Sure there were times the guys at the front of the restaurants/bars would ask if we wanted to go in and even walk a few paces after us when we said 'no ta' but it was never a hassle - just - part of the holiday experience. And if you don't try them out you really don't know what you are missing. We were walking along on our 3rd day and Leon from Neols asked us to go in to his bar and we said 'no ta' we're just looking for a football game that we really wanted to see. Next thing we're sitting down watching what we were looking for; enjoying a lovely salad and a few drinks; enjoying his company and hooked on Icmeler for life

The police cracked down on hassle last year they done a three strikes and your out policy. 1st time closed 3 days second 1 week 3rd closed for good. The hassle at some resturants had been getting steadily worse before that. Unfortunately because of a few bad apples every restaurant suffered.

I personally dont mind the hassle, but I know people who have felt intimidated by it and that not pleasant way to feel on holiday.

I found that the restaurants weren't a problem last year, but the hassle from the hairdressers and jewellers was twice as bad! and a bit rude. I wouldn't dream of being rude to any of the people trying to make a living there, but I was sorely 'tested' some days

Yes my first time in Paradise and the bars/restaurnts were ok when it came to hassle; however I was sorely tested by the hairdressers - especially on the walk to the centre from the Old Village - they had the cheek to suggest I needed a 'hairdo' and when I said 'no ta' they made a right full of me - (my hair goes very frizy in the heat) . I must admit I did look a wee bit like a pineapple

Actually I do agree about the hairdressers, they follow you and one, a couple of years ago touched my hair and said I had split ends.
I know for a fact I hadn't because I have a very good hairdresser in England and she would not allow me to have split ends!
I just said its OK I'll take my split ends home with me if its OK with you.
He didn't bother me again.
I have had no-one being rude to me in shops or bars but then again I can't speak Turkish well and i really wouldn't know what they were saying
