I prefer the no hassle bit. I dont mind abit of hassle but sometimes it can get bit much, but still love the place.

price of imported drinks: This is completely due to government tax policy on alcohol just so no one thinks that bars make a fortune on these drinks...they complain as much as we do....

Try the local gin which is ok but get a proper tonic in it which makes a big difference.

There is a local whisky and Ankara whicky used to be a tipple of mine but that has shot up in price also.

Pick up a few bottles at the airport have a few drinks before you go out then just drink Efes.

The local vodka is nice :D

The people are great, apart from the rude ones at the market.

The food is lovely (most of the time) but the no washing up is even better

The scenic views are out of this world.

The sound of the people calling to prayer at the mosque.

Lazing on a pedaloe.

The cleanliness of Icmeler is outstanding.

Just the feeling of being "home" makes me smile as we approach Icmeler

.....and of course the sunrises, if anyone's around at that time of silly o'clock. Must admit its a wonderful sight sitting on the balcony, watching the sun rise up over the mountains, and there it is, and suddenly it is HOT!
Oh to be there now please.

When we were there in 2005 we picked up a couple of bottles of Bacardi at the airport but when we ran out and saw the price in the shops £17 for a small bottle 75cl of bacardi I think this time we will be buying 4 bottles as they say you cannot have too much of a good thing.

As many have already said it's a combination of lots of things that keeps me going back, I really do feel like i'm going home the minute I take off from England. For me it's just got everything, I've definitely found my place in the sun!

I honestly can't imagine going anywhere else, in fact, a couple of years ago I decided to go to Lanzarote for some winter sun (a place I was always very fond of.... until I discovered Icmeler) - although the week was very "nice", I spent the whole week wishing I was in Icmeler and the minute I returned was straight on to the travel agent to book Icmeler for that summer. Haven't made that mistake again!!

For me it is 100% the feeling of being part of a huge family, I have met so many wonderful people in Icmeler, Turkish, British and some lovely ladies from Holland and have made true friendships. We have kept in touch all winter and are so looking forward to being reunited this season. I also love the feeling that im 'safe' in Icmeler, being only 23 and female walking around at night is a little frightening in some countrys but not there I no where ever I am I have no need to worry.

I also think many people think like us because we go every year at the beginning of Sept and see many people from previous years who we have got chatting to . We don't go to the same appts twice so its not that they go to same accomodation or anything.

I met a welsh lady over there, and we stay in touch and have a laugh. It's nice, don't think you find those kinds of friendships anywhere else.

Well I guess its mainly the people that make icmeler the way it is, You can get sunshine anywhere but you cant get all the friendly faces you see year after year in other places.

I have just checked this thread and realise I havent made a contribution on the reason why I like Icmeler.
This is a little piece I wrote a while back.

I got to wonder what is the attraction in Icmeler for me?

Is it the early morning walks along the promenade were the smell of jasmine is still in the air,the sea is like a mill pond hardly any movement except for the gentle lapping of the waves on the shore, the sea still resting before she receives her daily guests to enjoy her watersports.
Or is it the early morning walk up into the old village were the distinctive smell of hot earth wafts the air, changing to the smell of newly baked bread as I pass the bakers shop near the mosque.
Walking round this tranquil scene horses, goats, hens and geese busy themselves feeding, and in the background can be heard the incessant rhythmic sound of the crickets.
May be dinner time spent under the wellcoming shade of the trees at the Erdem cafe on the promenade were a few beers and a tuna sandwich is taken while watching the world pass by.
Could it be when Icmeler dresses up for the evening, with her flashing lights and inviting bars, when she opens up her heart for us all to enjoy.
One ingredient not to be missed from my thoughts is the friendlyness and hospitality of the Turkish and Kurdish people who during our visits make us so wellcome.
I know it doesnt do for us all to like the same things and my memories will be different from yours, everyone has moments they remember which make repeat visits compulsive.

What makes Icmeler for me first off all there is the drive from Dalaman to Icmeler you turn the corner and paradise is in front off you.The people who can't do enough for you. The wonderful sights and smells and most off all the feeling off being home

What makes icmeler

Postby jivebunnie0 » 17 Mar 2008 21:25

That first step off the plane at Dalaman, smelling the heat and Turkish air.mmmmmmmm then the familiar trip from the airport, until we near Marmaris and that view is just to die for....at this point my heart starts beating faster because I know I'm almost home. Then there are the twinkling lights of Icmeler as we drive round the bay.

Bliss :D :D :D
