I have never seen a cockroach and only been bitten once in Turkey.

When we went to Lanzarote there were cockroaches so big that you could have put a saddle on them and rode them down to the beach

Also when we went to Corfu there were rats climbing the trees just outside of our apartment !!
I think I'll stick with Icmeler.

I thought it was Cicadas (Zeet-Zeets) that made the noise in the trees :o . They're just like big Grasshoppers and just as harmless :)

I dont think I've ever seen any.

The worst place I have ever been for bugs in Gran Canaria. Had cockroaches and ants, the ants were eating the cockroaches it was awful.

Postby bigchig » 17 Mar 2008 11:20

when we were holidaying in june last year, we were staying at club aquirium way up in old village, one night we,d been visiting family staying at baba shan a bit closer to centre, as we walked home we heard a load noise that seemed to be getting closer to us, it was very dark and not a sign of anybody, just this load noise, then in the distance we saw a thick cloud of smoke, it was very scary, it was,nt till the next day that we were told that it was a truck goin round spraying insectaside, but oh my god it was very scary. but excellent idea.

Yeah I'd heard about the trucks that spray insect repellant, we stayed at the Grand Aqaurium last year which is club aquariums sister, and they mentioned about the insect repellant truck. Very good idea.

I too am terrified of cockroaches, I have a stupid nuerotic fear of the beasts, but I have only seen one in all the years I have been going to Turkey, and that was in the garden of a hotel in Marmaris.
I think if the hotel/apartments are clean and lets face it most of them are you wont have any problems with them.

I have also seen and heard the August Beetle and I think that they stick to the trees.

Hi All,
I lived in Tenerife for 5 years and the place was over run with cockroaches :( :( . among with other forms of incect life.

From the look of quite a lot of the posts here most of the Canaries seam to suffer from the same problem. I have never been to a cleaner resort tham Icmeler.

The way people talk about "dirty turks "could not be further from the truth!! I have only been there once, but I have been to quite a few other place and nothing compares to the cleanliness of Icmeler.

Hi Natjack

I'll second what your saying.

I was allways told Turkey was dirty, and was reluctant to go at first, but pleased I went and found out for myself how clean and wonderul it is.

Can I third it please ha ha
Strange isn't it how so many people know so much without having been to Turkey?!
Can't agree more about the Canaries, Tenerife was our worst bug experience although maybe it was just the accom we were in?

Gran canaria had me stood on a coffee table with a pile of shoes in my arms and was throwing them at the cockroach, I know not a very manly thing to do but I'm not afrad to admit it lol.

Steve what are you like!
Not too ladylike either, and I was stood on a stool in tears - not brave enough to throw anything at them...heard horror stories about what happens if you crush them

My friend is far braver and more knowledgeable than me and reckons you (or rather she) should flip them on their back so they will die

Problem was the ones in our apart were in the bathroom. Nightmare with all these (well OK two) breakdancing bugs when I wanted the loo in the night

I found one under the bathmat in gran canria the ants were eating it. it was disgusting not nice thing to find when you're abit rough from the night before. It was a really nice place I stayed aswell think it's just a common problem in the canaries by the sound of things.

think you're spot on there Steve
Know what you mean about the ants though
still we've got to brave it if we want Winter sun near to home I suppose - what martyrs we are and just to prove a point, am off to Lanzarote on 14th April
Mind you, am going with said knowledgeable brave friend so should be ok!!

We had a good holiday in Gran Canaria, it wasnt Icmeler but still. Although we did experience some cockroaches it wasnt that bad. The worst we ever had was in Feurteventura, they were everywhere and flying at us at night, never seen so many grown men screaming.

Have never had any problems in Icmeler myself, but then im too busy having a good time to notice. :D
