Luggage allowance amended

Postby geovil » 24 Feb 2008 13:36

Have just noticed that Cosmos are dropping the luggage allowance from 20kg to 15kg as of 1st May,I wonder how many other airlines are doing the same we went away last year and the luggage allowance was only 15kg and the problems it caused were unbelievable, people get used to what they can take and get caught out when it is changed, there were people having to transfer things from one case to the other, and others that were having to pay for the extra weight the people in front of us had to pay £75 extra which you do not want to do if you can help it, Also a lot of operators are not allowing you to consolidate your baggage with other peoples in your party.

oh no........I stuggled with 20kg, perish the thought of losing another 5

seems to me like yet another sneaky way of stinging us for more £££s on top of what we've paid for flights

Also don't get caught out like I did last year too - thought won't take hand luggage put all in case and between us we were 3 kilo's over - now we had no hadn luggage, so technically we were under due to 20 for case and 5 for hand. We still got charged £6 and there were people who had more than us and didn't get charged. So this year I will be taking hand luggage and making sure case not over!

15 kilos is not enough especially as the case before anything in it can weigh up to 5 kilos.

It's another way of squeezing more money out of people! It annoys me that airlines are allowed to get away with this, it's bad enough with all the extras they add on to the cost of a ticket without having to pay extra for a perfectly reasonable weight!

It always was 20kg but I think nearly all airlines are now 15 with the option of paying for 20.

It stinks, especially as there are still restrictions on taking liquids in your hand luggage - and if you're anything like me that's what weighs the most - even when I buy the travel size products, it seems to be the suncream!

I wonder.... how long will it be before you have to step on the scales yourself at check-in and if you weigh over a certain amount you'll get charged an "excess body" fee?

I was considering buying one of those approved cabin size trolley cases to use as hand luggage - thought that way I could put some of the heavier stuff in there as in the last few years I've been travelling they don't seem to weigh hand luggage any more....

And... you really need to watch your luggage weight at Dalaman coming home.... don't even get me started on that one!!

i agree it's not on but how many of us stuff all those clothes into our cases and come home with clothes we never wore - i for one always manage to fill 1 of our 4 suitcases with clean clothes on the way- probably because i buy new over there as well lol

Most airlines only allow 15kilos now as standard, you are very lucky if you can have 20 as a standard.

This year we`re prepared, been on Ebay and bought a very small set of digital scales for £5 inc. postage. You can hook your case on to them and they can take upto 40 kilo. :D :D

We go with thomas cook in may & they have also dropped it down to 15kgs too. Every year i have been over weight only been charged once though as other people in our party were underweight so they allowed it to go through as a total ammount of weight. With 15kg's being the limit i will definetly be over weight

luggage allowance

Postby Chris » 24 Feb 2008 19:37

Most of the airlines that have lowered the allowance to 15 kilos are also weighing hand luggage on outward and inward now.

15 Kgs

Postby geovil » 25 Feb 2008 15:20

Have just phoned XL the airline company we are going with and there baggage allowance is going down to 15kgs as of the 5th May even though we booked last year our baggage allowance is now 15 kgs and if you are overweight it is £5 per kilo or if you wish to have the extra 5 kilo's it is £7.50 each way you may as well say it is another surcharge on your flight coming in the back door I am disgusted.

The luggage allowance on our flights is 20 kg per person, baggage weighing more than 20 kg will be subject to a £5.00 per kilo extra charge which is payable at check-in.

This is what I have just got back off Aegean by email, they are not lowering their's this year

ABTA

Postby geovil » 26 Feb 2008 01:18

Have just emailed ABTA to get there views on if they can make changes to your flight booking as this is what this is and to do this without notifying there customers.

You will find that abta are not much use at anything including when the holiday company goes bust.

Take a look at the article below and also the date it was printed.

We have booked with Travel Republic and and flying with XL air they have told me that all bookings before 8th Feb 2008 will be allowed the 20kgs under XL Air's terms and conditions.
I won't hold my breath and I will believe it when I get the tickets. The problem with this b*** weight allowance is it affects what you can buy while you are out there. The business peole everywhere must be feeling it because instead of bringing back 10 pair of shoes and twenty handbags  you are so restricted. Ceramics forget it!
If the businesses close down people will not want to go were they cannot shop so they have started a spiral they maybe very sorry they started with their out and out pure greed. I have just got back from Benidorm and it certainly restricted the shopping. Off me soap box now :)
