Hi Manders,
Most digital camera's above say 5 megapixel will give you good results. Try for a known make such as Pentax, Cannon, Fuji, Nikon or Olympus with an optical zoom. Try to stay away from the cheaper camera's as they might have huge megapixels and look like the bargain of the century but you can gaurantee the lens will be rubbish and affect the prints.

Cheers John

Thanks John G

just had a look at your pics, what camera do you have? Does the pic depend on the lens you have. My daghter has a Hitachi its 6 megapixel and cost £190 but to me the pics are not good.

Hi Manders supose it depends what yoy want and how much you want to spend. My hubby bought a Cannon digital SLR a couple of years ago expensive at the time. But says that it was money well spent. He can add to it with different lenses etc. At xmas got our daughter one of the new Sony Cyber Shot touch screen camera's excellent pictures easy to use actually fool proof and lots of extras on it.Hope this helps.

For taking photos in the bars etc in Icmeler in the evening a high ISO rating is required for top quality pics.

Just something to remember before purchasing

Hi Manders,
Most of the pics I uploaded on this site were from a fuji S5600, its got a massive 10 x zoom lens and 5 megapixels. Because of the lens I wouldn't want to carry this camera round all the holiday as its a bit big. Fuji have superceeded this camera with the S5700 which is smaller in size but larger megapixel.

I have a Cannon A85 which is quite good, just about fits in the pocket, but lacks the zoom lens of the fuji. My 1st digital camera was a Nikon 880, this had only 3 megapixels but the lens is far superior to the fuji and Canon put together. I still use this camera for close up shots for website developement.

If I was to choose now I would probably go for a Pentax or Nikon as I think they make the best lenses. If you want to go into the SLR budget, Argos have a Pentax K100D for £279.99 with one lens - I'm tempted.

Cheers John

Canon 400D SLR very nice camera and takes great pics in idiot mode.

I missed my zoom from the Lumix so added a 70-300mm USM lens for when I am up on those cliffs at Kumlubuk and loaded with a battery grip I can take photo's for literally weeks before a re charge.

Its a few quid well spent

Hi Weapon, The high ISO rating was one of the reasons I bought the fuji but it really struggled to focus in the low light of the icmeler bars.

Lynda, the quality and sharpness on some of your photo's is outstanding, I think thats the difference between slr and compact camera's.

Cheers John

Get yourself a flashgun if you have a shoe mount and watch the differnce in photo's from the bars at night and it also lets you bounce the flash instead of blinding people and getting shiny faces.

Try Fuji 40fd. I have this one and is v good in daylight and fine at night shots. DSLRr are the best but will require a long learning curve. Used mine last July in Icmeler for the first time and was quite satisfied overall.

Dave

I have the old 300D canon, Superb machine, did you know your 70 - 300mm lens becomes 112 - 480mm because its on a Digital body ( you times it by 1.6), I`ve paired mine with a 28 - 210mm (44 - 336mm) lens. As you say good photo`s in idiot mode,

Steve wasn't that the case of old lenses.

These new EF lenses are now made solely for the digital eos slr so wouldn't they actually do what is said on the tin so to speak
