Chistmas in Icmeler

Postby terry » 23 Oct 2007 21:15

The weather xmas 06, datime sunny with a temp 22c taken from the board outside the gima at Marmaris, evening time sharp drop to 4c, a coat if walking out a must have. Along the front boats have been pulled onto the beach, workmen are making repairs, cleaning, and painting. The sands have been pulled back in heaps, and canals dug to aid the escape of forthcoming rain water, but this year was to be dry. Flowers still blooming throughout icmeler, and work has begun trimming palm tree. Many roads had been dug up, work had started on burying telephone cables.
Icmeler queit of holiday makers, has its same charm in the winter, and the warm welcome to have a tea with a local is not lost, as we all know on this forum, its a very special place.
I enjoyed myself walking icmeler to marmaris several times, domus back, these ran about every hour, maybe less. Boat out to sea from turunc ,tried my hand at a bit of fishing, the days catch later on bbq, eaten with friends a perfect day, and to finish a few raki to warm up.
Eating out during the day, there were several places open, with a few expats having a efes or 2. also a couple of places with evening entertainment.
For all those thinking of spending xmas in icmeler , you wont be disappointed, did i enjoy it? Well i am back there this xmas, roll on xmas.

xmas in icmeler

Postby terry » 24 Oct 2007 21:04

Its probably worth remembering this is the rainy season, my warm days could have been wet and cold, not so nice to walk to marmaris, or going fishing, but still good to see friends, and maybe learn a little more turkish.

A word of warning to anyone fishing.

Mustafa from the Tuncay apartments lost two of his nephews last winter when they were fishing.

They were fishing out of Turunc and it was a nice day but the wind did get up really bad as it does around 3pm sometimes and these two men were very competent fisherman and alas they drowned so if you do decide to do something like this on a winter stay then please be very careful

Icmeler in Winter.

Mario's, in the Old Village, is open during the winter.
Terrible about the fishermen. We were over in October and one afternoon the wind blew up from nowhere.
