Postby White Yorkshire Rose » 26 Sep 2007 08:44

"We have friends who live in ovacik who untill june this year ran an apartment in icmeler and they say icmeler is dead very very quiet and the hasssle is so much thast they think it is putting alot off going there,we were in icmeler august 2004-2006 and had noticed a decline in popularity, which is the only reason we came to hisaronu, glad we did"

We went to Hisaronu last year - big mistake. Although very scenic, it's not a patch on our beloved Icmeler. It's nothing you can really put your finger on as such - just the place as a whole. I think my main gripe is that it's nowhere near as friendly and welcoming. Even the English holidaymakers were not as friendly as the one's you meet in Icmeler. Also we found it a lot more expensive.

That was my view also, but we were glad we saw somewhere new as we felt we needed a change from Icmeler as there is a "big wide world" out there, no disrespect to those of you who go to Icmeler year in year out, I dont blame you for that, but we found it monotonous after visiting Icmeler 3 times in a row, and it was lovely getting on holiday this year and not knowing where places were etc. We are returning to Hisaronu again next year, the main reason being the apartments and the gorgoeus beach and also meeting up with a lovely couple we became great friends with. Then the year after, maybe another Country.

As far as the prices were concerned, actually we found them pretty much the same as Icmeler.

Yes I wholeheartedly agree about there being a "big wide world" out there, and if someone had of told me 9 years ago that I would end up going to Icmeler 15 (soon to be 16 on Saturday) times, I would have said they were "off their rocker".

What we tend to do is go somewhere else in the first part of the year, then Icmeler in the 2nd, or visa versa. Having said that, we have been to many countries and still havn't found anywhere coming remotely close -but it's nice trying. Havn't ruled out trying Hisaronu again, but said next time we would go with a group of friends. We were too lonely just the two of us, and like I said in my previous post, found that it wasn't as friendly.

I think this depends on what you want from a holiday. Icmeler has everything close by and flat (unless you go flag hunting) with Marmaris close enough to get a different feel. Hisonaru is basically one road with Olu Deniz at the one end and Ovacik the other. Ovacik is lovely if you want quiet, space and turkish - little or no entertainment except for in the hotels. Olu Deniz is small - the 3 together may be equal to Icmeler -new and old village. Fethiye is in some ways similar to Marmaris but doesn't have it's size or entertainment.

Icmeler is a holiday resort with everything close to hand - Hisonaru just isn't. The bars when I was there had no atmosphere, about 2 tables of people and nothing like the friendliness of Icmeler. I expect that happens with few people in bars/restaurants.

Going the other way, I found Bodrum to be dirty - the beach was littered and I found the hassle there quite uncomfortable. I suppose with Gumbet just outside that's like Icmeler though I haven't been.

So as I said, if we want a turkish working town with little tourist entertainment it would be Bodrum or Fethiye. If we want a holiday resort then it's Icmeler... I doubt, even with trips out we ever see much of real turkish culture in Icmeler though.

Cheers Juneflo. Once we discoverd Icmeler, there was no going back!! My motto is if it's not broke don't fix it which may seem narrow minded, but the honest truth is that we daren't try anywhere else cos odds are it won't match up to Icmeler lol
We also go elsewhere, but haven't found anything that compares - and if we're honest we don't really want to..if it's not broke ..........
