Exploring by dolmus ?

Postby raki monster » 11 Aug 2007 13:42

We are planning a longer visit next year in April/early May and hope to explore the surrounding coast and countryside. Can anyone tell us what the dolmus service is like and suggest places to visit away from the main tourist areas?

I think the dolmus only goes locally so you won't get further than Marmaris or Turunc. Last year I went to Bodrum by coach from Marmaris and the year before took a boat trip to Fethiye. assume you know you can get to Rhodes from Marmaris on a day trip.

I think you'd be better looking at hiring a car or coaches/trains than the dolmus. Maybe others with more knowledge can help you more. I expect you want to be on your own timetable and explore more than the excursions destinations - if you haven't looked, check them out on the home page.

Okay I have an admission...after visiting Icmeler 3 times now and going back for my fourth visit in September...I have never been on a Dolmus!

How do they work? do you just get on and pass a certain amount to the driver, or is it different amounts for how far you go like back at home?

Papa p - first of all, notice the colours - especially if you get one out of icmeler. Different colours are an indication of the route - icmeler, marmaris, armatulan etc. If you're unsure, just ask the driver.

easy to use - there's stops along routes, always used these in icmeler/marmaris but in other places you can just put your hand out to stop it. 1.5 lira from icmeler to the harbour at Marmaris - not sure about dolmus to other places. Get on, find a seat then pass the money up the bus via other passengers to the driver - or you can hand it to driver then sit down. In tourist areas, drivers are used to people new to the dolmus, so just get on and enjoy the ride.

Can you imagine using this method in the UK?! If it's anywhere like our area, the money would likely never get to the driver at all!

I had figured out on our first visit that the orange dolmus's are Icmeler ones, and that Marmaris ones are something else (totally escapes me at the moment! )

So its 1.5YTL from Icmeler to marmaris...what about say from Icmeler beach to the Old Village? Is that just the same amount? And do they all follow the same route or do you have to tell the driver where you are going?

See what i mean, I really dont have a clue and am probably making it more complicated than it is!

Papa P - Yes, Icmeler is orange (or yellow) I think Marmaris are blue. There are dolmuses that go into old village - I think they have that on the sign but can't be too sure. They run along the main road so you'll have to walk up from the beach front. I would advise you to walk a few metres up the road towards Old Village (just on the corner by the green car). That way any dolmus that comes is going to Old Village. I don't know the price now, it used to be 1lira up to greenworld which is one of the furthest apartments - but then it was only 1 into Marmaris too.

Don't worry about this - you won't go far wrong - Icmeler is small enough and - I always check the price in case it's gone up each year and check I'm on the right one.

Hi

Just got back and I'm sure that the dolmus is now 1.75 lira (a massive price increase ! ) The dolmus to the old village is clearly marked on a board inside the front window and indicates various drop off points, not that the sign makes any difference as you just get on and off as you please :? That's if you know where you're going !!!!!

The Turunc bus is white and can be picked up near to the entrance of the market every 30 minutes I think

the colour of the dolomus to get going to and from icmeler and marmaris is orange
if you get on a turquoise one in marmaris it goes to armutalan
and the prices are 1.75 ytl each way now
most terminate at the tansas in marmaris
and come into icmeler along the road that the tansas is on and terminate at the new marina
easy just get on and enjoy the ride
