English Newspapers, ciggies and football clubs

Postby Mulley » 21 Jul 2007 21:01

Hi everyone, can anyone let me know if you can get the normal newspapers over there and is this on the same day?
Also does anyone know if its cheaper to get ciggies in Turkey or duty free?
Plus! - are there any football grounds near Icmeler? Thanks  Jane

There was a guy coming round whilst we were on the beach selling our English newspapers for 8 lira and they were same day. We bought cigarettes on the plane at £12 a packet of Lambert and Butler or 1000 for £55 as a bit unsure that the Turkish cigarettes were the real deal or indeed too strong!! Hope this helps!

Our tour rep told us that if we had any ciggies on us without the yellow label on - to ditch them and not try to take them back through the airport on the way home. I didn't but some people had bought bucket loads in resort -she told them straight - they would get fine or imprisonment. Please people be careful.

I don't buy at the airport on the way there but do on the way back. £9 for 200 Mayfair. In resort I buy L & M's- 20 pack at a time in the hope I'll reduce my intake! At turkish prices who am I kidding? I've bought 1 or 2 day old papers but never seen the same day.

Hi Mulley,

Don't buy any English cig's in resort centres, they are counterfiet. Then are never displayed. They sell them from under the counter. We find Turkish own brand called Parliament or 2001 are close to English and very cheap around £2.20 per packet. If you want English ,buy duty free only.

Secondly, Marmaris FC last season won promotion to the second division, and if they get got up next season, they will be with the big boys, like Fenebache. However there season starts, I think mid September?

Newspapers

Postby archieb » 04 Aug 2007 15:56

Hi,

If you buy your newspapers after 2 PM they will probably be the same day - if you buy them first thing in the morning they will probably be yesterdays.

Regard,

I hate even asking about cigs.
However can anyone recommend a decent pack of local menthol cigarettes?

I too have made the mistake of buying "cheap" known brands on my hols, and then end up wheezing like a demented donkey after 1 draw.
At the end of the day if no-one can recommend a good local brand then I think you a safer buying cigs from duty free to take with you.

Marlboro should be OK, but do look out for the yellow tab on the packet, no yellow tag and they are fake

Hiya Debbie.

Did you get your cigs from the Turkish airport, and if so, was it going into Turkey, or on the way home? Sounds like a great deal!
