How do you afford 2 or 3 times a year

Postby Bazza » 20 Jul 2007 07:39

I get so jealous when I read here that some of you have just got back but are looking forward to going again in a few weeks time..
How do you afford it? I have to scrimp and scrape for my once a year trip.

Bazza,

I think some of our forum gang have, off shore bank accounts. If the Inland Revenue looked at this forum and put face's to names there would be alot of questions asked? Bazza watch this space maybe they are watching right now, looking at the members gallery. Iam guessing a few people may disappear off this forum never to be hear from again?

Hey Bazza

Last year i went 4times to Icmeler...i just come back in Sept and a week later i had booked to go back.I found a flight for £79!!..i thought i spend that on a night out here!!.
So booked it,i get my accomodation fairly cheap with brekkie inc..so really all i was paying for was night time.
So was quite a cheap week for me.

But usually we go May and September..so gives me time to get the money together.

This was first time in a few years we are managing two hols had booked last year for Septmber this year, but a few weeks before going in May (hadn't really planned to) had some dosh got a fairly cheap 2wks for £550 for both of us and took what money we had and basically what you don't have you can't spend we tend to be careful first few days to ensure we have a blast for the rest of the holiday.

Have booked the cheap flights for next to ensure 2 hols as the two will cost just a little more than this September's holiday is going to be!!! Next year's total for 2hols for 2wks each time with accom and transfers will be less that £1000, if you ask me you can't whack it :D

Hi

I think the thing is, is just to look around for the bargains, there are some fab deals out there if you look for them.

I've booked next years holiday for 2 of us for £330 for 2 weeks, and wil hopefully get something for earlier on in the year.

I am only going to Turkey once this year but have been away in Amsterdam and going to Dublin in October and also had a girly weekend away to Perth.

I think the people who go to Icmeler more than once a year maybe couples, or a group of friends. Or maybe a couple with one child that get's a free holiday place. Or couples with older children that pay for themselves. I wish.

In our family, there is myself, hubby and three daughters. We could not afford to go more than once a year with the girls as well.

When they are older and it is just the two of us, hopefully we can go more than once a year.

Or if you know something we don't please tell. :?:

We usually go in May (me & Joan) and August (us and 2 kids).

We normally book the August holiday at the travel agent as soon as we get back, this way we can pay for it in bits (very little bits).

The May holiday we just save what we can and take our chance!

I guess we all have a " budget " to spend on our holiday its just a case of how we use it . As Jula says there are lots of bargains around and forums like this are a the best way of finding out about great deals available . I 've already booked my flights for next June for £70 return after reading a post from someone on here who'd done the same thing .
This means that with accomodation and private transfer the cost will be about £ 420 for 2 weeks for 2 people . Therefore i'll still have some of my budget left to go again in september ... lol

I would love to go twice yearly if I could afford it. :D

I only get 25 days hol per year and use 12 for my Icmeler hol.
We also use some at Christmas .

I don't know about everyone else but I come home from Icmeler exhausted because of all the late nights and voddies, so I don't know if I could survive twice!! :?

PS.
Forgot to say that I wouldn't go to Icmeler for just 1 week as I don't think its long enough so perhaps I could go twice if I did that

Once a year is enough for me, perhaps when I am a little older I may try a shorter break, I like it in August quite busy and very hot lots going on

We always have two holidays abroad a year - either twice to Icmeler or once to Icmeler and once somewhere else (we always regret the somewhere else by the way).

We manage to do that mainly because we get cheap deals and it's a lot cheaper once you get to Icmeler than say Spain or Greece. But the main reason we can afford it is that not only do we both have full time jobs, but we also work at the weekends in other jobs. If we didn't do that I very much doubt we could afford a weekend away in Blackpool !!! We end up absolutley knackered and wonder if it's worth it - then we get to Icmeler and think - Yes, too right it is !!!

We tend to have a week in May and then a two week holiday in September (both usually to Icmeler), our May holiday is usually just us two and its a quiet break really, we do not do too much. Our September one is usually the main holiday because my sister and her family go and we have friends there at this time. We spend next to nothing in May and go mad September!! :D

We manage to do a two week then a week at the end of september/october,mainly cos we both stopped smoking over a year ago.I get four weeks holiday from work but other half has to take a lot of his easter christmas etc as he works on building sites and they're mostly closed then.So his week in september is unpaid :( But we manage!

when i get back from my next jaunt over at the end of august i'll have been to turkey 3 times!!

went for a week end of april/beginning may - cheap deal
went for 2 weeks end of june/beginning of july - not so cheap deal!!
am going for 2 weeks end of august/beginning september - cheap flight and very cheap accommodation (got through friends)

the question is how do i afford it!??? i really don't know!! :-)

well, it helps that i still live at home, so no big bills to pay. i used what i had left in my savings for first holiday, then next two hols i've paid for out of my wages. (i have a pretty decent job).

however i'm also meant to be saving for a deposit for my own place which i haven't been doing whilst holidaying!! so that will have to start back up again over the winter. will also be saving for a mega 3 week holiday next year!!!

:-)

p.s. also stopped smoking so that's saving me money - 16 days now - go me!!!
