Holiday and Restaurant review

Postby paullittlefair » 16 Jul 2007 21:48

Just returned home on Sunday morning after 2 blisteringly hot weeks in our favourite place and no delays. Stayed at the lighthouse and met Cassie and her posse, lovely to meet you alland I shall e-mail you soon. I wont say too much about the apartments as they are not ICR and I dont want to upset anybody. they were clean, well maintained and quiet. Good central location although the owner and his wife do not like it if you dont spend money there and this caused a bit of an atmosphere. I like to have freedom of choice where I eat and drink when I choose to go self catering and wont be pushed or made to feel guilty if we decide not to eat in their restaurant.
We ate in a different restaurant for the first 7 nights and then returned to our favourites for the 2nd week. I have to say we didnt have a bad meal anywhere and all prices were pretty much consistent. However I have to report that the CHAMPAGNE restaurant came out on top. The owner Yurda and Alex are top guys and made us feel welcome always. They were brilliant with my two 16 year old boys, the English breakfast was quality and plentiful. Evening meals delicious, I rcommend the chicken fajitas and order the oven cooked Lamb the day before, it melts in your mouth ( sorry to all you vegetarians out there). Thanks alot guys for being yourselves and we look forward to seeing you again. Other favourites were Noels and Florida, excellent service. Best drinking holes for us were Linekers ( 60s and 70s music ) funny staff and I managed to lose 3 pairs of white socks to their white sock wall ( dont ask ). Oscars bar, Mahoney and Jim Carrey at the front, good laugh. Always ended up at Deniz Kapizi, a lively vibrant place where you can sing on the Karaoke, dance on the table or just sit back and watch idiots like me trying to sing, definetely worth a visit.
A couple of tips, as Cassie has said add a couple of hundred pounds onto your budget, your money isnt going as far as last year. The exchange rate was 2.56 / 2.55 for the 2 weeks we were there. This was at the supermarket under the ICR webcam and Yurda at Champagne bar. Prices are slightly up on last year but still cheap compared to other countries. If anybody likes the Ringo's we haggled at brothers watersports and got them down from 60 lira for 3 persons to 40 lira. The speedboat was £60 for 1 hour we got it for 1hr and a quarter for £50. Dont be afraid to haggle, they are after your business.
Our holidays over for another year and Icmeler didnt disappoint, the same friendliness and eagerness to ensure all its visitors go away with a keenness to return sometime in the future. All you people going out for your holidays have a great time and I look forward to reading your reviews

Thanks for that report paullittlefair
Its Great to hear of members holidays.
The rate is better than it was in May so lets hoping it stays like that or even improves.
The daughter is on about getting a speed boat for an hour,so I will tell her to haggle.
I also like the Kapisi but never had the courage or ability to get up and sing.
Thanks again for taking time out and posting your review.

Bec, youre probably too young to remember a 70s punk song called Jilted John by Jilted John but that was my karaoke debacle. I am probably the worst singer you could imagine but I like a laugh and my two lads fing it hilarious. My wife just sits there and cringes. I will keep practising for next time, I quite like Somebody elses guy by Jocelyn Brown, could you imagine the high notes.
What is everybody else's favourite Karaoke song?????

Great review, can't wait to go now!

My favourite is an oldie, 'Will you still love me tomorrow' by the Shirelles, I'm like you Paul, practise with a hairbrush in the mirror. I can sing it in my home town but don't know whether I could do it in Icmeler

You never know though, after a few voddies I could be appearing in Icmeler in Sept!!!

Excellent review.

Will need to try Deniz Kapizi this year as brother's girlfriend is apparently good at karaoke so will get her to go up - me I don't do the singing in public love watching everyone else though

Thanks Gene, God it is an oldie!
I'm almost as good as that but I do need some backing singers who are dressed the part. Would you be available in Sept, but you must wear your sling backs

Thats always been my trouble I am always avaliable.
I would love to appear as part of your backing group, but unfortunately I come back on the 30th of August.
I think one of those slinky black dresses,my hair in the pageboy look and a pair of white slingbacks I would sing anywhere.

Oh Wishfull Thinking.

Hi Paullittlefair

I actually do Karaoke/Disco for a living and going to Kapisi's is a bit like a busmans holiday for me - but guess what ? I still go, and I absolutely love it. My fav song to sing is probably "Who Knew" by Pink.

It's funny you should sing Jilted John (I remember it well), as I play that at every venue I do (at least twice) and have even got the youngsters into it now - what a great song, they don't make them like that anymore do they ?

Great review by the way, glad you had a fab time. We have 10 weeks to wait yet to re-visit paradise.

Kazz59, glad you have got taste, its a pity we couldnt do a duet, it would probably be like beauty and the beast but in a musical flavour. My kids also like jilted john now and even there mates have it on their mobiles. Have a great holiday!!!

Paul, what a good idea. You could sing it and I could chirp in with the "TWO, THREE, FOUR" bit - how does that sound ?
