Postby D Craddock » 03 Jul 2007 13:23

Because of the posted money thefts Iam a little worried as I was taking cash. Will the shop owners who I normally get my money changed accept

Yes, don't worry, you will be able to change sterling travellers cheques at supermarkets or any other shop you use, for just as good a rate.

We take sterling travelers cheques every year and have no bother changing them, only word of warning when we were there in April we were ripped off by a change office, the rate he had on the board outside was for cash but he did not tell you this, he charged me about £20 pound commision on £200, it is the change office by the abacus hotel BONT USE HIM.

Hi Skyblue Dave

We have always took cash but as you say, reading some of these posts has really opened my eyes so this year I'll be taking travellers cheques for sure !

Hi
I'm also wary of just taking cash. Going to Hisaronu in 9 days(after 8 visits to Icmeler thought we needed a change). Has anyone used the new post office currency card in Turkey and am I right in thinking if I get the sterling card I can draw out Turkish Lira. Feel sad not to be seeing all our friends in Icmeler this year but if hisaronu disappoints us we'll be hoping in a Taxi and looking for a place to stay :(

Hi Shaz150

We went to Hisaranou and Olu Deniz a few years ago, it was really nice there, but unfortunately the magnetism of Icmeler just dragged us straight back !!!! On the other hand, friends of ours rave about Hisaranou just as much as we rave about Icmeler. I'm sure you'll end up making the right choice :? ! Let us know how you got on when you return. Have a great time.
