I always keep a tube of Anthisan with me - it's the best cream I've come across for bites and stings and sorts the itching and swelling pretty much immediately - you can get it from Boots and supermarkets.

If you get bitten while out in a bar/restaurant tip a little Efes into the palm of your hand (or any liquid for that matter) and mix with salt to make a paste then plaster on the bite - that soon stops the itching too.

I don't find the little buggers so troublesome in Icmeler but they do spray the roads regularly which I think helps.... the wasps seem to seek me out on the beach though, so I have a tube of Anthisan which lives in the beach bag and another tube that lives in the evening bag - in preparation. Uuurgh makes you itch just thinking about it!!

Have been reading all the advice posted on here as i too get eaten alive each time i go to Turkey. I cover myself in every repellent going whilst my friends do nothing and who gets bitten...yep me!!

I usually use piriton to relieve the itching but it doesn`t tend to mix too well with the efes/cocktails/vodka etc!! Another friend suggested trying a natural remedy which i could drink with so was wondering if anyone has tried such a product ? If so is there anything you guys could recommend?

Thanks Amanda x x

The lemon cologne that's available everywhere in Icmeler seems to do it it for us. I usually get all the attention from gnats mossies etc but a liberal dosing of lemon a couple of times a day keeps them away. Equally, my wife who doesn't tend to get bitten got a couple of whoppers last week. Really red and swollen, but a couple of rubs with lemon took them down to pinpricks.

My other half gets loads of bites wherever we go but I was also told because I had a rare blood group they left me alone. So there might be some truth in that after all. Think he'll have to try that SSS from avon this year as he has tried everything else and nothing usually works. :)

Have heard that more people are getting bad reactions to insect bites and not just in Turkey.I am planning on taking daily antihistamine tablets while I am there and also using repellant.Remember reading years ago about the Avon SSS oil,i was said to be used by the soldiers in Vietnam.Wonder which one of them discovered it worked and then told his mates!

I have never been troubled by them in August nor has Mrs or Daughter perhaps it's a bit hot, however, Dalaman because it is on a river is very bad for them

We stayed by the canal and I expected loads of mosquitos - I wasn't bitten once. My daughter however has come back with 15bites on her legs most of which were from one night when she went for a walk down by the beach late at night. And yes, I've checked they were mosquito bites not any other kind!

The only other time I saw them was when the mosquito van came round - that seemed to get the all flying for cover. That's about 3 in the morning.
