Hassle

We know all these bars and I hate all this happening.

It is bad enough with all the all inclusives not using the bars and I feel sorry when I see all the empty spaces in them.

They all have to earn a crust in only a few months so it is bad when places for 3 days.

I agree with Skilly it is part of the charm of Turkey which is why we all keep going back. We have never been Hasseled in a bad way just a bit of banter which all of us enjoy.Lets hope the new laws don't spoil things.

It was all part of the charm of being in Icmeler. It wasn't so bad that they are not even allowed to come out on to the pavement to speak to you. I hope it doesn't stop the people being so warm and welcoming to us all. It really would be a shame.

have been watching this topic and decided to reply. I think that the hassle has calmed down but i do think the police are being a bit harsh on some restaurants and going easy on others.

We were out there in May and most places were ok with you but i must complain about the Chinese restaurants on the main road. They are the worst for hassling but do not seem to get caught! It ended up that one day when my daughter and myself went to the cash machines, going along the main road from wonderboys and champagne restaurant we got so much hassle from them that one morning when we had walked past them going there and coming back i took their leaflet and swapped it with the other chinese place when we passed!!!! I started with Kingsland and worked my way up the road

They were not amused but i made a point. How come they are immune to being caught or is no one saying that they have been caught.

We are going back again in Sept when my other half and i are getting engaged, big party being thrown for us between Champagne and Wonderboys, both Leo and Yurda (Kevin) are like family to us so if any one wants to join us then feel free. The date is 15 Sept

Sorry for going on to much but it annoys me when friends get targeted and the really bad ones seem to get away with it.

I feel that I had to post a reply to this topic as I think its such a shame that its came to this. We have never been hassled from any place that bad that we've felt intimadated. We've had some good laughs with so called "hasslers" and will feel odd this year that we could be getting them into trouble. Totally agree with admin that they only have a few months of the year to earn a crust and its a shame that they are going to be loosing money out of this . It will be strange this year and I expect it will be a lot quieter without all the usual banter!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not a regular visitor to Icmeler (yet), this will be my second time when we go this year but I for one think it will be nice to be able to stroll round and be able to choose where I go to eat, which shops to go into and browse without being influenced.
As I said before I know a lot of it is friendly and charming, we had a laugh with some of them last year, I'm sure people will still eat in different places when it suites them and I cant see that stopping the hassle will have much of an effect on the businesses. How many visitors have you seen getting a bit annoyed with them? We saw several (we were not some of them I hasten to add). Anyway I suppose the storm will blow over and before long they will all be back on the pavements doing what they do best... HASSLE!!!

The way i see it is they're in business to make as much money as they can, and there's no way they'll do that when they're closed for three days at a time. So if they abide by the rules and don't hassle they will stay open.

Aha!! so this is why Friends was shut on Saturday night! I did find it strange considering there was a coach full of people sat outside it and decided to have a go on the Camel instead!

To be honest I dont know what the hassle had been like over the past couple of years, but this year it just seemed the same as whenever I have been there, just some good natured banter with a whole load of "Hello Nice Couple"'s as we walked past!

But on reading this thread I just realised that yes, no-one is ever out on the street! It still doesnt stop you being hassled by the shop owners, and the underground market is a nightmare if there is no-one else in it with you!

And again, a big big well done to Metropol for their complete no hassle idea, I ended up buying quite alot in there which I had seen cheaper elsewhere purely for the fact that I was allowed to browse with freedom!

It does seem like the council have went over the top though closing places!

My daughter is working in Friends and I've just got off the phone to her. She said they are re opening on Tuesday, apparently there are loads of places being closed down every day.

Yeah they had a sign up saying they were re-opening on Tuesday! We had just thought they were closed for improvements or something!

To be honest the hassle we got from one of their waiters as we walked past during the day on Friday was beyond a joke, but he didnt come onto the pavement or anything!

Cassie say your at the atm's in the middle of the square.Walk in the direction of pop inn and Romance and there is shops on the right hand side-one of these is Metropol.

I have to speak up for some hassle men. They can be very funny and quick witted with an answer for everything. Tom from NOEL restaurant and fun bar in Icmeler is one of these. He is a genuinly friendly guy. He is worried for his job as are a lot of hasslemen. He would ask ladies over 60's did they want to marry him or did they want his babies, he is just so funny and a pleasure to watch and listen to, I feel he is wasted as a hassleman. It is the pushy aggresive guys that insist you come on in and have a free drink,,, can you just imagine leaving after your free drink? shake your hand and not let it go. I just wish the pilice would have a go at the really bad hasslemen,, The shops I found in Marmaris was the worst. Even when you say you have no money they offer credit,, you can't win.

last year my daughter and neice spent a lot of time in the baron and the y on the door kept asking them where their parents were eating every night.one night we were going past and he called us over as the girls were in there and demanded we went in to sample his food when i said no thank you as we were meeting some friends he went off his head shouting at us .this continued throughout the holiday every time we passed the man is a nutcase hope he is not there this year as i am fed up crossing the rd. sandy 4 weeks to go

I have been reading through this thread, and seems that a lot of people were put off by the Hassle, now they are clamping down on it, everyone seems to be saying they dont mind it!!. I for one found the hassle annoying, but would give a polite no thanks and walk by, its not worth letting it get you too annoyed. As for seeing people you got friendly with, I cant see why going to greet someone would be classed as them hassling you and if you have made friends with the hasslers, then maybe you eat in their restuarants regularly anyway.

Yorkshire Rose, if you look back on this thread you will find that Icmeler babe gave an instance of someone just greeting a friend by shaking their hand and then undercover cops actually saying he was dragging her in!
I do thimk that hassle is bad when it descends to the level of the guy at the Baron, but as I said before normal hassling doesn't bother me, and I am not just saying this because it is being clamped down on

Hiya

The guy on the door at Baron can be annoying. I have never noticed this in the past years but i got to know him this year because apparently i met him when i was a bit drunk (dont remember at all) He is a friend of a guy i have known there for ages, ever since i have been going to to turkey. Now the guy on the door started to get on my nerves a bit but now i know he does it to everyone im going to have a word with my friend and let him know how he is annoying alot of people. Maybe he might have a word with him about this. Ill let everyone know what he says
