Hassle

Postby Bazza » 23 May 2007 20:03

I've heard on the grapevine the the police are cracking down on the hassle. They've apparently hit Marmaris quite hard, closing down some restaraunts and Icmeler is now being looked at.
Does anyone know if there's any truth in this?

Hi Su.
I remember the thread.
I heard this today from my daughter who is working out there (in Icmeler) so I thought I'd ask here to see if I could get anything from anyone here who may be "in the know"

Can anyone who has just returned comment please - just so we are prepared :)

Unfortunately this is the one thing that my husband gets stressed about. He is patient to a point but then that's it - blows his top!!

Why should we have to avoid them and walk through the back streets? I'm definitely going to follow Rami's advice this year.

baron

Postby salkk » 24 May 2007 09:47

i thought it was just me, but the guy outside the baron is not doing himself any favors. If its the same one that iam thinking of, he is a big guy that looks like he is on steroids.... He is the only person we have learnt to avoid

I agree about the guy from the baron. We had been in a couple of times but then he would constantly hassle us to go in.We even crossed the road to avoid him for a while as he had a go at us shouting that we should be sharing our money with everyone not just at the couple of places we feel at home in. Its our money and we will spend it where we want.

We used to visit Titanic regularly in previous years. Last year a lot of the staff had changed and it wasnt the same, so we decided we would try different places. Ate there once though, but by the end of the holiday - the guy on the front was really funny with us - and we used to be quite friendly, got to a stage where I would dread walking past cos I knew as soon as he saw us we would be "after" us wanting to know why we hadnt eaten there every night! Got really annoying, in the end we would go the back roads just to avoid him.

New Dreamboys was different - we got to know Jack really well and he wouldnt hassle us at all, just have a chat, ask what we had been up to and let us pass, therefore we ate there more often. My daughter and son loved it there.

The guy at The Barron did that to me last year - he shouted at me and told me to share my money with them and stop going to the same place every night - cause we drank in a pub just down from it - what a freak!

My husband was so mad i thought he was going to punch him!!!

hassle

Postby hamish1966 » 25 May 2007 17:42

i wonder if the owners of baron are aware of this site and read the post about the hassle it seems a shame that this man's pussyness is putting people off what could be a nice restaurant i remember the posts from last year and gave the place a very wide berth if it were not for the comments on the site we may have eaten in the place and quite enjoyed it and mabe even returned so who is going to print this page off and pass it to the man on the door(not me he's twice the size of me)

To be honest my temper was getting quite frayed to the point where I lost it at the airport with one of the girls in the shop that sells clothes and bags. I thought the hassle was very bad this year. The guys watch you coming out of a restaurant then want you in to eat at thier restaurant. Theres only so much food you can eat!

It is the only thing I dislike about Turkey. I find the only way to deal with the man at the Baron is to ignore him completely, as a polite no thanks doesn't work with him. Although we've heard good reports about Dreamboys food etc we do not go there either because of the hassle from one of the guy's outside who is very rude and in your face even when you're having a conversation. Do they not realise their actions can have the opposite effect on people?

Hi all

When are they all going to learn that if they stop hassling us, there may be a chance we would go in an eat there. I'm sure most of you will agree, there's definitely no chance of getting any business from me if I am going to be hassled!

Last year got so bad on the canal that my 10 year old daughter felt intimidated and wanted us to avoid walking past there - something has to be done about it.

We walked past Baron resteraunt last year, there were eight of us walking past in two groups of four, the guy asked the four in front of us if they would come in for a meal, when they told him politely that they had already eaten i saw him mutter some foul language towards them, before turning towards us and asking us the same question.
I informed him that we were with the people in front, and i had seen what he had said to them, i also told him that we would certainly not be using that restaraunt in the future.
Funny enough we never had any hassle of him again.

With regard to the hassle situtaion the police and local council have been working very hard to take serious action with this problem. They are shutting down places now for hassling, and also large fines. If the restaurant, bar or shop get caught more than 3 times then they are closed down permanently. Lots of places in Marmaris have already felt the severity of what the police will do and now yes they are taking control in Icmeler.

At the moment i do not think the hassle is that bad to be honest because lots of people now are aware of what will happen. Also if someone is persisitent in hassling, you just tell them im reporting you for Hassle, they soon step back into the boundaries of there restaurants.

Its a shame really cos I would love to be able to have a look at the clothes, bags etc I have 3 daughters and lots of friends that I would like to take gifts home to but as soon as you start to look they jump on you showing you things you dont really want and if I do buy its usually something I didnt want or the wrong size just to get out. The exception of this is the clothes shop near the Set restaurant I think its called Metropol and the other is on the main drag from Tansas just round bend on left called De Ja Vu the lady there will let you look in peace and only comes when you ask her, hubby always buys from there and spends quite a lot because of her laid back attitude. Last year I went shopping on last day and didnt end up with anything because of the hassleing. Regard the bars and restaurants its always the same ones who try to get you I have tried polite we will try you one night and have done so but the next day they are at it again.

We always give a polite No thankyou to bars and restaurants, have a long list of fave places we visit each time. Have given up on shopping though. even if you do go in and buy things, they are still not satisfied and keep bringing other goods for you to look at, no matter how much you may have spent already. The hassle from "Dave" at the Baron last year was dreadful, we had to take a different route away from the Palm gardens last year just to avoid him. A friend of ours was working there and was upset that we wouldn't go in to have a drink with him. we explained about Dave hassling us and he spoke to him about it. It still did not stop him, in fact it made him worse. :x

Just returned today-police closed 48 establishments in one night in Marmaris for hassling and srict enforcement in Icmeler this week made strolling much more pleasant and we visited areas we avoided last year because of this. Good news for everyone as whole atmosphere much more relaxing
