just back

Postby rachelmc » 22 May 2007 14:18

well ive just got back from yet another fabulous holiday in icmeler. the weather was excellent bar one cloudy day, and it was as beautiful as ever. i didn't notice too many changes, but then again i dont stray much further than venice and linekars!it was pretty quiet in icmeler, but long beach and bar street in marmaris were busy as ever. didn't manage to get to see stella - she is only on on a friday night until peak season, but not to worry, counting down the weeks till i'm back there is august and can do it all over again!!!

i'm so jealous of all you lucky people heading off shortly xx

I'm also just back from another fabulous week in Icmeler.

The weather was good on the whole: first half of the week temps were hitting 80 degrees in the shade, but by lunchtime on Friday it had clouded over and we had the odd spot of rain late afternoon. Saturday was overcast all day with the odd sunny spells and Sunday was cloudy all morning but hot and sunny in the afternoon. We had some kind of tornado Saturday night.... was a little scary seeing chairs blowing across the road and the trees nearly bent double! Have a pretty good suntan despite the cloud though!

We stayed at the Lighthouse Apartments which are superb(3rd time there!), we were up in the roof so had a pretty good view. Ate breakfast nearly every day there which set us up for the day and used the pool on the cloudier days as it's sheltered and quiet... bliss!

As we were only there a week we tended to keep to our usual haunts - Lighthouse of course, The Chef restaurant which is as good and as busy as ever, and the Erdem Cafe on the beach, Magic Garden.... pretty much the same faces in all the above!

We went to Cafe Rosa near the old village which was superb - definitely worth a visit (it's next to the Baba Sahin apartments) and another place I'd recommend is the restaurant under the Bonjour Hotel. If anyone remembers Charlie and "King Soloman" who used to be head waiters at The Lighthouse (pre-2006) - they've gone into partnership this season and have taken on this restaurant. We ate there a couple of nights, the food is excellent, service great and the menu is varied - and very reasonably priced. Definitely one to try if you've not eaten there before!

As various people have reported, there are a few restaurants that have changed, and a couple more shops just a few doors down from the Dreamboys, the new stonework on canals and beach front is all a little odd - the stonework doesn't look real... but it was still the Icmeler we all love (sigh)...

Overall it was a fantastic week, totally relaxing, it was wonderful to catch up with old friends, and we came away with lots of new ones.

The countdown has begun to the next trip out in August - and that one's for a fortnight!! Bring it on!!!

To everyone off soon - have a fabulous time

Got to go to bed now as I am up at 4am, dont think I will sleep much though.

Did either of you drink in Bar Street - just looking to find out if Mango is open this year, it's my favourite club there!

Scott & Julu

You are both in for a real treat and will have a great time in Icmeler. Only trouble is, is that it's so perfect there that it spoils you for other places as they just don't compare.

I really envy you both of your first visit to paradise - be prepared to be amazed.

ENJOY
