The Long and Winding Road

Postby berni » 16 May 2007 21:36

Who has done the looooong walk from Icmeler to Marmaris alongside the beach. We did it last year and never again. When we started off it was light and half way through it seemed to get very dark very quick and it was scary. It took us ages and I had high shoes on (not thinking it was that far) and my feet were in agony. When we eventually reached Marmaris it looked mad and too busy so we just got a taxi straight back to Icmeler. If anybody is thinking of doing the walk take my advice don not do it at night.

Hi Berni,
thought about this one a few times but never done it. Always used the excuse of being too hot to my hubby.
I must admit I'm not too keen on Marmaris either. Everything just seems too much hustle and bustle. We've been to Icmeler 5 times and have only ever been into Marmaris twice. The first time we went it was the middle of the afternoon in August . It was so hot and smoggy it made me feel quite ill, so we got ourselves a drink and then got on the Dolmus and went back to the tranquility of Icmeler. :)

We done this walk the first time we went to Icmeler Oct '98, and to be honest then it didnt seem that long, maybe because it wasnt too hot etc but looking back now i'm thinking how the hell did we manage it haha.
But along the way met alot of people as you do,walked all the way to the Marina, jumped the dolmus back though hehe

I would say it would take about an hour, probably best doing it in the morning when it may not be so hot : 8)

Hi, we did this walk last year, it is a lovely walk and it took us about an hour and abit in to marmaris and then we walked right to the end of the harbour, whilst walking through we past people working on a new hotel I will need to do this walk again this year to see what it looks like now, I would only advise this walk if you are up to it as it is long especially in the heat make sure to take water with you.

I was expecting people to say about 3 hrs because its listed as being 8 km in the brochures which is near enough 5 miles.

Hi mick,

it would take a lot longer than an hour or so if you were walking all the way to the marina which is at the far end of marmaris. A couple of years ago it took us about an hour to walk from the beach in marmaris along to the marina so probably at least double that from Icmeler.

My better half and I do this walk every year we go to Marmaris or Icmeler. It takes around 1.5 hours to the beginning of Marmaris at a fairly gentle pace and about another 40 minutes or so to the marina. Its a lovely walk superb views and wiith the thought of a cold efes at the end of it, worthwhile doing. The walk is mainly flat and its a fairly good path, although I would not fancy this walk after a few too many shandies
