Recommendations Please

Postby dj_sploits » 03 Nov 2016 09:37

Hi everyone,

The wife and I have started planning for our annual Turkey break in July for next year.
We have decided to do something different and plan to do one week somewhere in Turkey and then the second week in Içmeler.

So where do people recommend for our first week? Ideally we would like to fly into Dalaman and not be too far away from Içmeler (mainly thinking of transfer time between the 2 resorts. A couple of hours away isn't too bad (3 hours max)).

So fire away and let me know your recommendations and why.

Looking forward to seeing the responses :D

Why not try Akyaka.Just over an hour from Icmeler, with a lovely shallow sandy beach, fresh water river boat trip and some stunning hotels.Check out the Ottoman hotels. And reasonably cheap to stay. We are looking at it for our silver wedding anniversary next June.

Sounds fantastic. I shall have a little gander on Google and see what it's like.

Thanks :D

Akyaka is lovely - we spent a few days there and it was great, so quiet and peaceful - we were the only non-Turkish people in our hotel (which did put my very limited Turkish to the test, lol!). Lovely beaches and some nice places to eat too. We are thinking of doing the same again next year too

A few years ago, my son went to Olu Deniz for 1 week, then 1 week in Icmeler and I'm sure JT helped with the booking. I've never been there myself, But he enjoyed both places....Olu has Kayakoy, Paragliding from Babadag mountain and the Lagoon and is approx 1 hour from Dalaman, 2 hours back passed Dalaman to Icmeler .

Why not try a Gulet cruise. We did one this year from Fethiye to Marmaris. Had a fab time and met some very interesting people. Will definitely do it again next year.

Have a look at Dalyan, we never thought we would like anywhere as much as Icmeler but stayed 1 night in Dalyan this May at the end of our holiday and loved it so much we are going for a week next May. A lot smaller than Icmeler but a bit more turkish . The scenery is stunning and so is turtle beach. Nor far from the airport either.

Hi all,

Thank you so much for the replies they all sound fantastic and you've give us a lot to think about.
We looked at a gulet a few years ago but it never happened (can't remember why though). Definitely something I would love to try.
