Postby daveywill » 26 Jul 2015 12:49

I'm trying to find a decent hotel/apartment to go to with my disabled cousin and my wife in Sept....can anyone reccomend somewhere please. Ive looked at Dursun because of the 2 bedroom status, but not sure if its accessible. :?:

Give JT at ICR a ring and he will sort you out with somewhere suitable. I know the Bilnur is wheelchair accessible, as there was a lady in a wheelchair staying there when we were there, but JT will know of the best places to suit your needs.

I agree with Blondie's suggestion. My husband is disabled and I have often tried to get necessary information from some of the large tour operators before making a booking and they have not been able to be as specific as I needed them to be i.e. is there a wet floor shower, grab rails, ramps etc.
I wish you well with your search and if successful would appreciate you posting on the forum your experience of the place you choose. It is really useful information to have on file.

Thanks for the advice Blondie, I did do live chat with Elaine yesterday and she suggested Marti Resort because of its wet rooms and lifts, but I wanted to do a bit more research to find something nearer to centre. Will call back to see if any new suggestions :D

As I also replied there is nothing except Marti that matches your request

There was a hotel up in the village with full disabled facilities but that has now closed down

My wife went on tripadviser today and 1 reviewer left his contact details for people to call him regarding wheelchair accessible hotels/apartments in Icmeler. He recommended the apartments I have mentioned before, that being Dursun Apartments, saying that he has stayed there with his disabled son and that the shower room was ideal for him. He also said the rooms were of a good size and that we should contact ICR as they advertise them. Would you agree John ? or is the Marti still the only 1 ? :?:

If you did not get my email then please look in your junk folder as I said I had asked Dursun and we have filled all ground floor rooms and all he could offer was 1st floor so no good to you

If your cousin has an electric wheelchair, be warned. Our airline wouldn't accept our powered wheelchairs. We have a powered scooter that has been to Dalaman 11 times and a powered wheelchair, 5 times. We went out, as usual, but Thomas Cook had passed our return flight to Sun Express. We had given all the required information but at no stage were we told until we were checking in at 3am

Dragon, that's terrible. What happened to the wheelchair? We are taking my wife's electric chair in Sept (with Pegasus Airlines)

Dragon. What a start to your holiday and shocking treatment of a disabled person! Contravention of the Disability Discrimination Act comes to mind. I hope after your holiday you have recharged your batteries and are motivated to challenge this decision. Life is difficult enough planning a holiday around a disability without it falling apart at departure.

Its somehting to do with the battery being in hold (especially lithium batteries) and its seems different airlines have different rules.

Toonarmybarmey - might be wise contacting Pegasus directly to find out what they accept.

Don't forget Sun Express and Pegasus are not European airlines so discrimination rules may not be as strict.

We have confirmation from Pegasus. But I assume Dragon had confirmation from TC as well. Though that didn't help when then transferred the flight.

Sorry to take so long to respond as I've just come out of hospital after having a hip replacement following a fall at the beginning of august. We had done everything that was needed for a smooth flight home, as we have done countless times before. The problem arose because Thomas Cook, who would have taken our wheelchairs passed our flight over to Sun Express, who wouldn't.

At check-in at silly o'clock in the morning they told us that we had the wrong type of battery which we knew wasn't the case as the both of them have dry batteries. The electric scooter had been to Dalaman eleven times and the electric wheelchair had also been multiple times. We showed that we had dry batteries and they then told us they wouldn't take those either. The airport manager was with us and apparently they had been trying to resolve this for hours with Sun Express refusing to budge but they hadn't informed us.

To cut a long story short we boarded without our wheelchairs as to travel with them we would have had to fly to Gatwick which would have been an impossibility for us. TC would fly our wheelchairs back to UK and courier them home for us. The staff in Cardiff were excellent and told us that we should report them as lost so we would then be covered by insurance.

The annoying part was that one lonely wheelchair was waiting for us at the carousel :? So, what was the problem?

Next year we won't fly from Cardiff as we don't want to take the risk. There are no Sun Express flights from Bristol so we feel safer.

So beware if your flight is transferred, you are not covered by law as the original company you booked with is acting as an 'agent' and is not responsible. It is a loophole in the law according to Consumer Direct.

Firstly, Dragon, I hope you are making a good recovery from your hip replacement and it has not created further difficulties with regards to your mobility. Thank you for advising of the outcome of your experience with Sun Express and proves that no matter how much planning you put into your trip there's always something that can happen which is out with your control. Hope it did not spoil your holiday and glad to see it hasn't put you off returning to Içmeler.

Thanks for taking time to get back Dragon. We had no problem getting here, hopefully it will be the same going back. Had the fastest transit through passport control ever with the guy pushing Joan in a wheelchair running and me trying to keep up. He then pushed us straight to the front.
