Turkish Lira

Postby hillbilly » 06 Sep 2014 13:17

Finally got my two weeks booked at the Rhodes. :D It's been a while since I have been to Icmeler and it used to be the case that it was better to take a small amount of Lira and change Sterling in the resort. Is this still the case and if so, does anyone know where can you buy say £100 of Lira in the UK. The Post Office has a £400 minimum.

Thanks

Hi hillbilly,
We got ours from our bank with our Sterling travellers cheques, no commission, but Asda and M+S sell Lira.

Thanks for that Steve. Asda seems to have removed Turkey from their currency list, and M&S require you to have an account with them. The search continues.

Try this link Hillbilly. At very least it'll give you a reasonably accurate idea.

Don't know if you have them where you live, but The Money Shop will order any amount for you at that day's exchange rate. To be honest, you could just take £s as your apartment won't expect you to pay upfront for food and drink and will exchange money for you at a better rate than you will ever get in the UK

Hope that helps.

We just came back from Icmeler on Monday. I changed sterling here at Thomas Cook with no problem. When we left the rate in resort was 3.55 to the pound. I used my RBS debit card to draw sterling from the Turkish bank. For each £200 I was charged £2.40 which was much cheaper than buying travellers cheques. I changed the sterling mostly in our local shop or the bars. The bars tend to give a better rate as they know you are spending money in their bars!! I miss being there already :(
