Places to avoid and Not avoid

Postby DaveyD » 19 Aug 2014 05:43

Hello, :D 12 days to go and I cannot wait to get away.

I know we should all find what suits us best on holiday, but recommendation is always a bonus.
I've been to Turkey four times, but the last time was over ten years ago. I stayed three times at the Mares before it went downhill.
So any recommended tips regards places to eat and drink would be a great help.

Not so much fussed about entertainment as such, just good food, music and a good vibe.
There's two of us, so we are looking to try as many restaurants as possible.

Many thanks in advance :D

Definately recommend the Champagne Restuarant - brilliant service & great food.
If you like Steak they have their steak night on Mondays.

Also Bonjour, Majestic & Waterfall.

I'm sure there will be others recommended but these are my favourites, happy holiday :)

I don't think you'll be disappointed in any of the places you eat in Icmeler - we've never had a bad meal there and have eaten in different places every time we've been. We went to Fryer Tucks last year just to say we'd had some good old fashioned fish, chips and mushy peas whilst on holiday, and although nice, we did feel it was rather pricey for what you got!! :? We really enjoyed a mid-afternoon snack at Jimmy's Okomo but haven't eaten there of an evening. If you take a look at the forum in depth (!) you will see where people are recommending - the same places keep being repeated by many which in my mind speaks volumes. We will be trying Alin's Grill, The Wayside, Champagne Bar and Tommy's this year, along with many others, in particular the local places like Meryem Yemek Evi, Nefes Pide (apparantly a Pide is a must try!!! ) and Kerem. But of course a holiday to Icmeler would not be complete without a visit or three to Cafe Anne's!!!! The secret is to just venture out and go for what you fancy. Enjoy - and hope you find nice places. Happy hols. 8)

Will be there on 1st Sept. Have been going to Icmeler for 8yrs and can honestly say that we have had a couple of bad meals. Saliks is great as is some of the Korean menu in the 3 Bells. We always look for the smaller Turkish places as the food is usually very good, and best of all cheap!!!.
Just look for the places that are busy, usually a good sign that the food is good. Have a good holiday

On our first visit to Turkey, Which was Olu Deniz, we were given the best advice ever by a holiday maker who's holiday was just ending....If a restaurant is full..it's full for a reason. We have always stuck to that rule, if plenty of people eat there it must be good.

Many thanks for your replies. :D Much appreciated, :D and have always stood by the " if its full " rule for a reason also.
Only ever popped into Icmeler once while I'd been just down the road over the years. Always said I'd go there the next time I popped to Turkey.
1st September can't come quick enough. :D

Vinces next to Cafe Annes is a great restaurant especially for the steak. Then you have Sidiks and The Wayside. But this year we ventured to Marmaris harbour and ate at Jan de Wit restaurant.Absolutely superb service,location/view and food.Well recommended for a visit. And not forgetting the new jetty at Deniz Kapisi on the beach front at Icmeler.Another lovely setting with superb food.

Mandy - I certainly will do, I may even return in October after this trip !

It'll be interesting how I view Marmaris after ten years away, and from the stories I've heard.

Inch - Thanks for the information. I was wary of Marmaris again after the reports of how it had gotten, but will be taking a trip along just for old memories.
So will definitely give that restaurant a try. Thanks. :D
We are stopping at the Petunya Konak hotel towards the back of Icmeler, it's got some superb reviews.

I was of the same opinion as Mandy mo that you will struggle to have a bad meal anywhere in icmeler but this year we had our first bad one at the champagne.
All other six times we have been every meal we have had has been excellent.

Had a few meals over the years that have not been that great, not many however. On my list to avoid Red Lion, food not that great and hassled too much by guy at front. Romance again too much hassle as you walk passed.

Places to go include, Lovestar, great food reasonable prices, Tin Tins great bar great atmosphere and Sabri's bar again lovely relaxed atmosphere

I am really pleased to hear Lovestar being mentioned a lot this season. Seems they have listened to the negative reviews from last year and picked up the pace a little more. It is such a large restaurant and great view point for watching people come past from the village heading into town. I really like it in there but unfortunately the last time I went in there Chris was obviously struggling for staff and was trying to do everything himself. It wasn't working for him and I felt sorry for him as they were losing trade left right and centre.
Therefore, I am really pleased they have come back fighting this season and I will be going back in myself for sure.

Thats a very good point Sami and I'm glad Lovestar has improved.

I've heard a similar story about Champagne this year; 1 staff member has gone on long term sick, 1 has left to go into the army & I understand the owner is waitering himself to fill the gap.

I've never heard bad reviews of this place previously so lets hope it just a blip this year
