Fish and chips

Just trying to stir things up a bit!! as the forum is quiet. When we were in Icmeler for our holidays this year, we had a good few meals out and about in the resort, but without any shadow of doubt Fryer Tucks was the busiest eating place I saw. When we had a meal there the folk were queuing up outside waiting to get tables, so I just wondered what the general feeling is about eating fish and chips when we are in Turkey on our jollies.!!

Each to their own, I suppose - but my other half and I tend to stick to Turkish food when we are in Turkey. Think we've had a Sunday roast once in all the times we've been going to Icmeler, and that was only because our son was with us and wanted to try the enormous Yorkshire puddings at the 3/4 Bells! Similarly, we might have a cooked breakfast maybe once during our hols, preferring to have Turkish breakfasts the rest of the time. Eating fish and chips, pies and other stuff that you can easily have at home just doesn't appeal to us when we're on holiday - we like to sample the local food.

However, as you say, places like Fryer Turk do seem to be quite busy, so they're obviously catering to someone's tastes...

Each to their own in the food choices. I personally would prefer to eat Turkish food, but my other half is not so adventurous.

We did have Fish n Chips for the first time last year in Fryer Tucks and it was lovely, even though the service was a little on the slow side.

The wife likes her fish and chips on holiday,but I avoid them as it affects my being able to enjoy my Efes
I do like a Roast though and found that the Rush restaurents Sunday Lunch was very good.

Think the thing to remember is that you do what suits you on holiday and perhaps not feel obliged to just eat Turkish sytle cuisine. Personally I do enjoy fish and chips and last year we went to Harry Rams for lunch for fish and chips, as I fancied a wee change. Dont know if it because we were on holiday but have to say it was probably the best fish and chips I have had. Never tried Fryer Tucks but it certainly gets good reviews. I am more that happy to try any place and any food that I like if the reviews are good

So if yo fancy fish and chips or pied and mushy peas or an English brekkie, enjoy

Strangely I never eat fish and chips in the Uk and haven't done so for many years as we normally have chinese takeways so when on holiday having fish and chips is a bit of a treat.

Did you know that battered fish came from Portugal, and the first chips were cooked in Belgium so although known as a British dish it is quite European.

As others have said each to their own, in the end it's our holiday. Do I like Turkish food, yes, do I like Italian, Chinese, Indian the answer is yes, does choosing English over Turkish food and vice a versa make a difference to my holiday no, it's my holiday, normally we will select what type of food we fancy eating about an hour before we go out in order to select the restauant, if I want Chinese it is the Majestic, If I want a steak it is Vinces etc etc, The main thing is if I enjoy it and I come away satisfied with the taste, the quality, the price, the service and the Efes was ice cold then I am a happy man.

Hi all. Went to fryer tucks on Wednesday and had jumbo cod, it was flippin handsome to the point we are going again tonight nd incidentally if u want to test the greymatter they have pub quiz wed and fri at 9:30 pm. Prize on wed was 78 lira

We went to Friar Tucks last week,ordered fish and chips and pie and chips,bit pricey I thought though at 25 lira each and mushy peas an extra 3 lira each.Then we decided another day to try Sonys just up past Romance,ordered the same with peas included and homemade chips as well,much better value at 15 lira each.

Went to Friar Tucks this summer, although only because Harry Rams was closed. I have to say Harrys was better and last year nearly half the price (14 Lira)

I will try anything once and have tried the lot but have to go where ever the wife can get something plain

Luckily the exchange rate is so good. I've seen it at 1.9 which would have made your fish and chips a whopping £13.16 and if you had the peas, a total of £14.74. It would be even worse for the pie as down our way pies are much cheaper than fish. On the plus side this would work wonders for my diet

When we started going to Icmeler we could have a steak and an efes for 20 lira
