We went to Oludeniz last year fotr the 1st time after 8 trips to Icmeler, like you for a change, mind you we had already booked Icmeler for this may, so it wasnt gonna be a permanant change, Its not as large as Icmeler, everthing based around 3 streets, but nice restaurants, and bars on the main drag, with some nice small bars tucked around the back, the beach and lagoon are good, and a few decent bars on the front, if you want later noisier spots they are just 6\7 mins on the dolmus up in Hisaronu, which also has a weekly market, and Fethiye is another 20 mins further on on the same dolmus, worth the change ,We wont stop going to Icmeler but we are going to Olu again in 6 weeks.

last year stayed in Hisaranu, which is just up from olu deniz, we stayed in adult only apartments, which we loved, and visited olu denis often, its a lovely place, but we found it slightly more expensive than icmeler. people are just as friendly, and we would certainly go back. its smaller than icmeler, but just as pretty with the mountain backdrops.

I stayed in nearby Ovacik but spent quite a lot of time in Olu & Hisaronu, I really liked Olu Deniz and if I could get some decent apartments there I would go back to stay but it only seems to be hotels & b&b.

Been to Oludeniz 3 times and this year will be our second time to Icmeler. For us it has to be Icmeler.
We prefer the beach to Oludeniz main beach. There are a lot of small beaches around the lagoon in Oludeniz but it is quite a walk to get to these although all have free pick up from your hotels if you ring them. They then take you back when you are ready, but once you are there you sort of feel obliged to have lunch and drinks there and stay the whole day.
The resort is a lot smaller than Icmeler but plenty of nice places to eat. After 3 visits we found it got a bit samey so we tried Icmeler and loved it so much we booked again as soon as we got home. Icmeler also seemed less expensive than Oludeniz too and food a lot better .
Hope this helps.

Icmeler - no contest!

Went to Olu Deniz in May / June and were disappointed after several trips to icmeler over the years.

Tried OD as a trial new resort for 7 days, but won't go back.

Back to Icmeler in four weeks - hoorah !!

After many years of going to Icmeler, in 2009 we decided to try Olu for a change.

First impressions on going down to the 'front' were 'WOW. This is fantastic'. Lovely view, para-gliders floating down from the mountaintop. Lovely.

Then..............

Food was more expensive than Icmeler and the quality not as good.

Beautiful sand on the beach initially but this gives way to coarser sand, then pebbles, then very large pebbles. Getting into and out of the sea was a nightmare - had to buy shoes so that we could get purchase on the rocks to climb out of the sea.

Sunbeds in Icmeler (at the time) were 2.5tl each = 5tl for 2 beds and an umbrella.

Sunbeds in Olu 6tl each and 6tl for the umbrella = 18tl.

There was a beach boy who would bring you a drink but alas only if you were very young and nubile. No beach service for me or my hubby!!

The Blue Lagoon does look beautiful. You pay to get in and then it was 6tl for each sunbed and 6tl for an umbrella.

The whole holiday we were both eaten alive by mossies (and I was using repellent).

The highlight was going into Fethiye - restaurants better and the fish market was great.

Conclusion for us was that Olu is 'all mouth and no trousers'. It's each to their own, I know some people who love Olu and return time and time again. For us - it's Icmeler every time.

We really liked Olu Deniz, I agree the beach was difficult to walk on and getting on and off the boats was great fun as there is no jetty, you had to wait for a wave then jump on, I got very wet. The lagoon is beautiful and peaceful. There are many places to eat and drink, we used to end up at Shadows Bar most nights it was quite a loud place but fun. While we were there we also got bitten by mossies, a lot worse than we have ever been in Icmeler. All in all I prefer Icmeler but am glad I went to Olu Deniz because I really enjoyed it too.

Wolfman...we have done two-centre holidays a few times...one week in Oludeniz, one week Icmeler and have really enjoyed doing that...best of both worlds. We didn't manage a holiday in 2011 and last year just went to Olu but this year we were back to the two-centres. First week in Oludeniz was fantastic, absolutely love the place but we were looking forward to Icmeler as we hadn't been for a couple of years. Afraid to say it was a big disappointment and I won't be rushing back. Never thought I would say it but I found it quite scruffy...lots of rubbish left uncollected and places that had shut down were left to rot..even saw a chair perched on the roof of what used to be the Cubana restaurant!! As others have said 'each to their own' but I know you won't be disappointed if you decide to try Oludeniz...good luck!

We went to Olu Deniz in may 2006 as a change from Icmeler and couldnt wait to leave!
It felt claustrophobic and its the only time we have been insulted by a shop keeper in all the 23 years we have been going to Turkey.
The lagoon has some nice beaches but the main beach steeply shelves and its difficult to get into the sea.
Its near to Fethiye which is a nice town and Kayakoy but if I were to choose another Turkish resort it would be Side.
