6 weeks in 2014 where to stay?

Hi looking at staying for 6 weeks from around 26th Aug - 3rd Oct 2014. Looking at self catering option but open to suggestions. Would like to stay Old Village side of town but again open to suggestions. Had a price of around 1300 pounds including flights. This sounds like a really good price any thoughts on this appreciated. Anyone else stayed for this length of time and if so any tips. Thanks in advance to all.

Not stayed for 6 weeks, but I don't think you can go far wrong with the Sun Village Apartments in the old village. We stayed for 2 weeks in June and had a wonderful time. It can be as quiet or as noisy as you want as there is a lovely bar which is run by Jamie & Ozzie. Plenty of restaurants nearby and only about 10-15 minutes from the beach. The Dolmus stops right outside the apartments.

Just to add that there is no shallow end to the pool which I was disappointed in because I can't swim so if you have older children with you who can't swim, might be a problem. There is a tiny splash pool for very young children though.
