Changing money

Postby Gridders007 » 16 Jun 2013 13:08

Just a quick question, is it better to take English over to turkey and pay with that or change it to lira? I have heard that you get better rates if you pay for things in pounds? :D

Hi

we take a small amount of lira for the first day or so and take the rest in sterling and exchange in the resort as you tend to get a better exchange rate there.

You can also take your bank card and use it to withdraw either lira or sterling but you would need to check what you get charged by your bank for overseas withdrawals.

I usually take around £100 worth of Lira for first day-or-two and change the rest in resort. However, due to the excellent rate at the moment I changed £500 the other day and bought 1,430 TL.

They do also like sterling at the markets and shops though - excursions are often advertised in £ rather than TL

I think I might change some money this week because of the rate as well, I remember last year we had trouble getting money from the cash machine because it was always empty.
