Hassle?

Postby Carol S » 03 Jun 2013 21:27

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone noticed more hassle in Icmeler lately? We last visited 2 years ago and fell in love with it. So pretty and friendly and definately no hassle from the locals which we had had in other resorts in Turkey. My son and his family are in Icmeler now, they arrived today. He's told me he was hassled continually tonight. This surprises me. Is the same Mayor still there, the one who had virtually stopped this?

Can anyone recommend any hassle-free places for them to visit with our 3 grandsons if this is the case?

Thanks for any replies

I didn't notice any more "hassle" than previous years, though I don't really find it a hassle and certainly not as bad as the charity collectors in our streets. I think it's down to a state of mind and a difference in culture. In the UK we are not used to strangers approaching us in the street.
I always take the time to reply when they say Good Morning etc (it's polite to do so), then if I'm not interested give a polite "no thank you" when they want to describe their menu. Works for me.

Carol I find they can tell when you have just arrived due to lack of sun tan and probably looking indecisive about where to go.If they can get you early in your stay they might have a lot of your custom during your holiday. It will ease up after a couple of days.

Ive just returned and thought there was more hassle than when we were there in October.
We had a tan as we had only returned from Malta 2 weeks before going so that didnt stop them.
We have been going to Turkey for 23 years and whilst it isnt on the scale it once was I must admit I lost my loaf a couple of times at the bloke at the Romance palace who literally followed us down the road and then told me not to get angry with him! :x

Although I have not been this year I have found the hassle has reduced since the first time we went in 2002, the worst used to be the Baron restaurant but thats gone now thank god, I must admit I have always found the Romance was quite bad but I have never had an insult from there like other places.

Unfortunately Romance have always been bad with hassle. They got shut down for it a few years ago which you would think would teach them a lesson.

I've usually found a polite 'no' works for me (us), if they persist I tell them I'm not hungry - if they still persist I just ignore them and keep walking - they soon get bored and go onto the next 'victim' lol. Never really found it much of an issue to be honest and in my experience it's pretty much the same wherever you go.

Just cross the road next time you go past the Romance, we always do that if we get the slightest hassle and they don't stop when we say no, we just stay as far away as possible.

Why dont you do what i do,when different bars, hairdressers, boat trips, and different things like that are handing out leaflets just get as many as you can and if you are walking past any of these bars that hassle you just hand one of the leaflets to them and when they stop to look at it you have gone past them it works for me and i have been doing it for years.

We did walk on the other side of the road and he still persisted even when I told him I didnt go to restaurants with dancing waiters etc! He eventually did stop but only after I got annoyed.
