New Turkish Eatery

Postby Roy » 18 May 2013 09:33

There is a new turkish restaurant called Meryem Yemek Evi that serves excellent food at really cheap prices. Run by twin brothers it is just up from Romance but on the opposite side of the road in the row of shops including hairdresser & pizza place. Been there for breakfast, lunch & evening meal & will be returning. They have meals prepared daily that are not on the menu which you can go in & see to choose from; when looking we even got some to taste. Their donner kebab spit uses wood on 3 levels for cooking, not gas. They do sell alcohol but choice is somewhat limited, although my wife asked for a Brandy which they didn't have but went to the supermarket (Elvis who are connected with the restaurant) & returned with a small bottle, beer is either Effes or Tuborg. wine, raki, vodka. Seems quite a few british people have already been in & another good sign is that many locals frequent the place. Pleasant relaxing atmosphere & no hassle.

Just had lunch here. WOW

Plate of 6 meze with as much bread as you want. Mixed plate of Aubergine and meat stew, Green bean and meat stew & Cous Cous. Two glasses of tea 15tl.

Some of the most charming people I have met and seem genuinely proud of what they do. There is a constant stream of Turkish and non Turkish people using this place, as well as orders being delivered all over town.

Will be back tomorrow!

Always glad to share the good stuff here in Icmeler, just as others do; & I do enjoy my food especially Turkish or something different. Hope you do try, I'm sure you will enjoy. Ask for Ali or 'fake' Ali - the twins, both good guys.

Firstly a big thank you to Roy for pointing me here :D

I think from now on I have had my last breakfast (Turkish, English or otherwise) and my last burger and chips, steak baguette or any other sort of lunch.

From now on it's lunch at Meryem Yemek Evi (Eating House of Mary)!

Just had Lentil Soup with bread followed by Doner Wrap and 2 glasses of tea for 10tl

I know lots of places do traditional Turkish food, but I believe (and am happy to be proved wrong) this is normally "celebration food".

I don't know how long this place can maintain it's charm, but advise you if you want to experience traditional everyday Turkish food sitting among Turkish people enjoying the same, get to this place now, look at what they have in the pots and join in!

A very happy Tim :D

We only had time to try the mercimek corbasi, but it was good. Really nice people who own it, brothers to the owner of Best Supermarket just down the road. If you like turkish food, or you've never tried it, give them a try.

Yes the lentil soup is delicious and, with a basket of bread, a meal in itself :!:

Really looking forward to trying this place when we go on 29th July. We know the owner and the brothers as we have been going for 3 years and are always popping in and out of their supermarket, and they are very nice friendly people.

Hi, will definitely be giving this a go. I love Mercimek Corbasi and when staying at The Lighthouse the staff make it specially for me. Unfortunately couldn't get booked there this year so looking forward to having my fix at this new restaurant

Even though I do like that soup it has to be better in UK where it is called pea or lentil or pea and lentil as then it has carrots onions and a shank of bacon in it

Well that's the recipe I was brought up with

Then you put in some potatoes and a few more bits and bobs and you call it Scouse Stew :) ha ha
