Istanbul-Dalaman

18 Mar 2013 11:04

We are thinking of spending a couple of days in Istanbul before flying down to Dalaman. Can anyone advise if we can buy duty free on the internal flight, or would we have to buy it when flying from Scotland to Istanbul then put it in our case for the flight to Dalaman? Are we able to buy it at Dalaman airport when we arrive there, as I know you arrive at a different terminal.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :D

I would imagine normal rules will apply, you will need to buy it on the way to instanbul and put it your case for the domestic part of the journey, as the terminal you will arrive in Dalaman is the domestic terminal I am 95% sure there is no duty free there.

We are looking at doing the same in october, JT came up with a good price for flights, hotel in IStanbul and hotel in Icmeler, just waiting for holiday confirmations and ensure are finances are OK, hopefully will book it later this month.

You can't buy duty free if you are leaving or arriving on a domestic flight. All the duty free shops are in the international terminals only. I think it's ok if you buy either here or at international arrivals in Istanbul as long as you get the staff to seal the bag and keep your receipts and boarding card from that flight. We're going to do that in may as we land at Istanbul then have a domestic flight to Izmir, which we booked later as an afterthought.

This is on the Pegasus Airlines site:

Products Bought at Duty-Free Shops/on Flights?

A member of staff may put in a special sealed bag any products that you have acquired from a duty-free shop or during a flight plus the receipts. Permission to board the flight will be given after this bag and the associated receipts have been checked at the security point.

If your journey involves connecting flights, it is very important that you do not open any special duty-free shopping bags acquired at shops or on flights until you reach your final destination airport. Otherwise the contents of the bag may be confiscated at a transfer airport.

If you have any doubts on this matter, please enquire at the airline or travel agent before your journey. You are obliged to cooperate with the security staff and airline personnel at the airport.

Hope this helps.

When you buy your booze, get it at the airport and tell them you will be in transit and they will put in a special sealed bag for you.

When you land at Istanbul you will do your customs checks there and if you are on a quick connection you will simply leave this terminal and use the interior walkway to domestic terminal.

You are allowed to buy one bottle of spirits here then go though the scanners again for your internal flight to Dalaman

When you land you enter the domestic terminal but getting down the stairs you are greeted by an official who will put you on a bus to collect your luggage at the International terminal where you can buy further duty free

Your passport has already been scanned at the duty free in Istanbul so they will not sell you spirits if you have already got them there

For people who are staying in Istanbul a few days, I am not sertain about bringing that sealed bag back into the terminal and would not chance it so put it in your hold luggage
