paying for flights

Postby carol0912 » 28 Sep 2012 16:09

I know this has been posted before, but found decent priced flights from jet2.
There's no fee if you pay with debit card, 2% if you use paypal and 3.6% if you use credit card.
That amounts to around £21 if I pay with credit card, which annoys me so much.
Is it safe to pay with debit card i.e do I have any comeback if things go pear shaped?
I know it's not a lot but it's the principle.
What would you all do.

While I realise there is nothing certain in this world, Jet2 are really not going anywhere in the near future. They are based near me and are getting bigger and bigger, 4 new citybreak routes are being launched on Monday and they are moving into more uk airports. It's not a great deal to pay for peace of mind, but my money would be on them being around for a good long while yet :)

I would never pay for any flight with anything other than my Credit card. There is no guarantee what will happen with any company and it's worth the extra for peace of mind. I would not consider booking with Debit card as twice in the past I have had to claim from my Credit card company.

I always pay for anything over £100 with my credit card. Having twice booked with companies that have gone bust and had it sorted out quickly without any hassle it is definitely worth paying the charge. I count it as another type of insurance. Also, if you have to rebook a holiday because a company has gone bust, you've probably read on the forum that you can claim for any additional costs that you may have. Last year we had booked with Aegean and our new flights were double the price which we quickly received from our credit card company. The other thing to remember is that it doesn't matter if you think that a company is doing well, they can still go bust as Peacocks did last year. It's better to be safe than sorry. I agree though that the charges can be high, flights we booked recently for my daughter and granddaughters were £8 each with Thomas Cook. They only need to process it once though, don't they? so why do they charge per person? for no other reason than for profit. We won't have to pay these charges for much longer as I read recently that the government is putting a stop to these excessive charges.
