ANIMALS IN BARS

Postby Canli » 25 Sep 2012 08:15

I was going to add this to the Rush Bar discussion, but thought it should be a seperate topic.

It sickens me to see cute little puppies tied up outside bars in Turkey. The turks know that most tourists can't resist them, and when they stop to admire them, they're usually persuaded to call in for a drink and, if they have kids, the kids can play with the puppies. Go back next year and there will be different puppies there. What do you think happens to this year's puppies when the bars close? Well, they certainly don't go home with the bar owners or staff, that's for sure! I have seen this happen many times over the years, and had strong words with more than one bar owner about it, but as long as people frequent the bars that use animals as an attraction, it won't stop. If you're an animal lover, or even if you're not, avoid places that exploit animals like this, and make sure Icmeler Animal Welfare is aware of them so they can keep an eye on them.

Well said, Canli - as I said on the other thread, I don't care which bar it is, or which type of animals they are exploiting to try to get people in, but as long as they do it, I won't be frequenting their particular establishment.

I had big concerns about one particular bar, the only place you can purchase guinness I believe. All has been sorted today, the puppy there has a new forever home where it will be loved and cared for.

Are you on the facebook pages for IAW Peli? I posted on there about this puppy while I was still out in Icmeler. The story is all on there of who has it now, an English woman I believe with a Turkish husband would be my assumption, I'm not sure who she is.

Yes, the story is on the IAW Facebook page. They managed to get the bar owners to agree to sell them the poor puppy. At least it now has loving owners - let's just hope the bar doesn't simply go out and get another one. I fly out tomorrow, so I'll be keeping my eyes open.

From what was said about the other puppies fighting with it, I gather they have others, so it probably won't be replaced this late in the season, but watch out for the new ones next year. This bar has been using puppies as an attraction for years, but I've never seen an adult dog near the place.

Rashid at Rush bar has said he won't have an act with animals again because people said they would boycott the place, so let's see if we can get others to follow his example.
