It was lovely to visit Dr Murat and his center yesterday, we had a long chat about lots of things, he really is a charming man, not just a doctor but a friend as well, he made us very welcome.

Margo tried to look for a Thank You card but no luck, Dr Murat said he was glad to see us and thanked us for paying him a visit.

Hello Dr Murat and welcome! I have a question regarding my feet swelling after flying. Is there anything I can do to avoid this? I have lost 3 ½ stone since last year so am hoping that this might help the situation. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Caroll,
You will find a few medical advices as specified below for relieve foot swelling during a fliht:
Avoid high sodium foods and meals the day of the flight. Sodium causes people to retain fluid, and gravity and protracted sitting will cause fluid to "pool" around the feet and ankles. It will cause the internal tissues to swell and stretch the skin.Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.Avoid alcohol and sedatives, which could make you too sleepy to walk around the cabin.Wear compression socks for the flight. The socks control the amount of pressure exerted on the leg, with the greatest amount at the ankle. Pressure gradually decreases to the top of the sock. This promotes better blood flow and reduces swelling.Sit with your legs uncrossed. Crossing your legs while seated constrains blood flow.Get up and walk several times during the flight. Walk to the back of the plane, next to the restrooms or where the stewardesses load the beverage carts. Stretch up on the balls of your feet, up and down, over and over. Lift your knees, one at a time and march slowly in place. Walk up and down the aisle a few times, from one end of the plane to the other.Perform some leg stretching exercises while you are seated. Leave the ball of one foot on the floor and raise both heels as high as possible. Hold the position for a moment, then release and repeat. Raise one leg at a time and flex the front then heel of the foot over and over, then repeat with the other foot. Raise one knee at a time and create full circles with your ankles, in a clockwise direction and then counter-clockwise.
Have a nice flights....
Dr.Murat

Thank you for the information Dr Murat. That is really helpful. My Husband has also booked extra leg room seats, so hopefully that will help too. Thanks again :o)

Fortunately there is no cure for this type of addiction but I can give you a prescription for the withdrawl symptoms.

You must get 1 tonne of sand delivered from your local builders yard, then you must visit your local supermarket and purchase some Efes and Raki

Go home and take your shoes off and put your toes in the sand and start digging with your feet

Then get your wife to bring you an ice cold Efes or two and relax, close your eyes and think of Icmeler (this will ease the pains slightly)

In the evening before bed, prepare some cheese and melon and have a glass of Raki (all medicinal of course) and watch the night sky and look at the stars then when you sleep you will dream of Icmeler until you return

I hope my diagnosis is of help to you

Dr Murat

Brilliant post  . I am also suffering bad withdrawl symptoms. I am self medicating with daily doses of this Forum, You Tube and Facebook, hopefully the symptoms will fade as i get nearer to my September holiday date.

It would only happen in Icmeler!!. The Doctor prescribes something to combat the withdrawl symptoms
Im like diannne123 trying to survive on daily doses of the forum and holidaymaker bloggs, but with only 15 days to go hopefully i might just manage. This is why i love Icmeler and have been coming for twenty odd years :D

Welcome to the forum Dr Murat.

We met Dr Murat whilst we were on holiday last year when my daughter Lucy cut her foot when we went on a boat trip which ended up infected and Dr Murat treated her.

He was very kind and as we had to visit the clinic for three days to have her dressings changed and wound cleaned the clinic arranged to pick us up from our hotel and take us back.

I know now that if anything happens (touch wood it doesn't) that we are in very safe hands.

Not sure if I actually met you or your partner while my Husband was hospitalised. Surprising how you get friendly with people in the same circumstances as yourself. Hope all went well with your trip home :D

I also must say that Dr Murat was wonderful, I took Phill there before Dr Murat sent him off to Ahu Hetman, thanks once again Dr Murat.

Hi reesy1959

I travelled alone to Icmeler. I don't think we met as i noticed Phil was discharged on the 5th Oct and i was admitted the 4th (Room 112) and was poorly in bed on 5th. After 5 days i was discharged, went back to Icmeler and 2 hours later the Insurance rang and told me to go back to hospital as they were not happy i was discharged on 93% oxygen level. Same day i was discharged again. Next day Monday i was due to fly home but i had to wait for a nurse to arrive from England to escort me back, as i had to fly business class with oxygen. They wouldn't arrange the nurse until my doctor sent them my medical records.

All this time i didn't know if insurance were going to pay. I booked an extra day at my hotel but then they closed so i had to find myself another hotel (all alone and unwell). Eventually Thursday, nurse Michael arrived examined me 10am and said he come back in a taxi 1am to start the journey home.

Dalaman - Istanbul - Gatwick flight then TAXI with nurse home........what a horrible experience !!!

I noticed within 10 miles the driver looked tired, 50-62 miles hr on motorway, opening window, twisting head, then he had 30 min VIDEO call to a friend !! so i insisted we end the journey. 3 1/2 hours later the next driver arrived and 10 mins from my home he too went sleep.

The insurance did pay £7000 + so far

Sorry for long story. Glad Phill on the mend. Hope you get your insurance sorted.

I was so grateful to Umit who worked at my hotel who answered the phone during the night, took me to the doctors and went to the hospital with me. He stayed the night in hospital while i was very ill, not leaving until 11am for his shift at 12. He went back to hotel and packed a hospital bag for me, the manager brought my things in that umit packed. Then Umit came in everyday to check i was ok, one day bringing the cleaner in to visit me :D I had only spoken to him once or twice before this to order my drinks from hotel bar.

The staff at Rush bar also helped me once i had left the hospital and said why didn't i contact them and they would have helped/visited me.

You are never alone in Turkey, they are so helpful. Thats part of why we all love to go back so often

Absolutely, such wonderful people. I got a Turkish sim to use while I was there, the local shopkeeper offered me his car to use (which I declined :) v and lots of offers of money, I will never forget their generosity, helpfulness and most importantly, their friendship.
