Rate Today And All Money Questions

Hi Sunseeker, we usually change £100 at a time, or £50 just so a) we've got enough money as we go along and b) cos it's easier for me to check they are giving me the right amount of TL
Wouldn't fancy walking around with a large amount of money, even if it's only back to aparts - wouldnt want people knowing how much money we've got with us

We are going to take sterling travellers cheques, you do get the same rate as you would for cash when you cash them in in icmeler dont you?
And are the shops etc that cash them numerous in numbers?

You get the same rate as Cash for Travellers cheques, most bars/supermarkets will change them, just look for the best rate.

In answer to the other part of your question, yes, there are lots of supermarkets that change money - I was nearly going to say they ALL do, as we've never come across one yet that doesn't
When we say supermarket, we mean "shops", they aren't supermarkets of the size or type we have at home, more like corner shops really haha

We've never changed TCs in a shop but only because I don't fancy carrying my passport round - often, you'll find you can change them at your apartments or at least one nearby. Just keep away from the change shops!!

Bit of a drop in the rate today. 2.78 in the change shops. However I have just been told to let you know it is 2.8 in The Three Bells!

I would personally save them for the duty free on the way home as all the prices are marked in euros and if you want to pay in Lira or £ they convert back from Euro.

Rate is not looking good, the interbank rate has dropped from 2.854 on Friday to 2.793 now, I hope it doesn't drop any further

The Bank of England for a while have been considering slashing interest rates to 0.25% from the three-year all time low of 0.5%. In their meeting last Thursday they decided to continue pumping into the economy. This makes the markets jittery so I suppose the rate will go up and down a little until they make the decision. They can't keep on putting this off so our rate will eventually go down but the question is when?

When our interest rate go down, the pound will weaken and so the exchange rate will go down. The rate will then only be helped if Turkey’s interest rate lowers, weakening the lira. The lira seems to be strong especially when compared to the £ so I doubt whether that will happen. But as usual if we could predict what was going to happen we'd all be rich

Not sure if this is much help but the rate dropped while we were there (got back on Sunday 5th Aug).
It was 2.82 in Icmeler dropping to 2.76 - Hotel was giving 2.7 the whole duration so we changed some money there towards then end.

Just had a walk round and changed some money, the rate is 2.80 in most places.
