1st Time in Icmeler

Postby Chris.W » 09 Jul 2012 11:09

Hi to all you regular forum users.
we are fyling out to Icmeler on th 30th of July for 2 weeks this will be our first time in Icmeler (2 adults 2 Kids) and our first time sc, having stayed in Sarigerme last year AI and although having a great time we did feel after experiencing some day trips and meals out that we were missing out on the real Turkey by being AI, so we decided to give sc a try so we could experience more of that Turkish hospitality. we are staying at the Kurt Apartments in the old town so would appreciate any recent members experiences of our accommodation. also we have a budget of around £100 to £120 per day for 2 adults and 2 kids aged 8 and 11, we will want to eat out every night and most breakfasts although some days we will do our own breakie and maybe just have a snack during the day and we will be doing 2 or 3 day trips ie jeep safari, boat trips so is this a realistic budget.
looking forward to seeing the the sights and possibly some other members soon kids very excited as they love Turkey.
Thanks Chris

Hi, we stayed at Kurt Apartments in 2006. Just one word of warning, the owners will try to push you to eat there, go on their boat trips etc and generally want you to spend your money there. They are a bit pushy but just remember you are free to take your custom wherever you want to go.

Apart from that, the apartments are clean and the pool is a good size.

You will have a lovely time.

To be honest Chris, if you want to go on a few excursions and eat out every night, your £100-£120/day budget may not be enough. I'm budgeting for around £150/day for 3 of us for 10 days S/C. We will be also doing a few trips, i.e. AI Boat Trip (already paid for on the ICR homepage), Jeep Safari (my daughters idea), Water Park and maybe a Horse Safari.

Make sure you shop around for the best prices (i.e. don't use the hotel rep - they will cost a lot more for the same trip/excursion). ICR do some good prices and the bonus of paying upfront before you go is that your budget will go further and then £100-£120 may well be enough.

Either way - I hope you and your family have a blast. :)

Chris there is normally 4 of us and last year my budget was £150-£160 per day, we didn't skimp but we also are not a family who eats three course meals, typically we only have the main course, we also just had fish & chips a few nights and Pide another night, we went on three trips together, I also did a fishing trip on my own. Lunch time most days we would buy fresh bread and make a sandwich on the balcony, we did take some tins of ham, tuna and cornbeef with us from the UK but we also bought cheese and salamis from the supermarket.

In the end our spend last year was £117 per day and the exchange rate was about 2.82TL to the £1

Just the wife and I will be going this year and I'm budgeting £100 per day as I always like to have spare money just in case we want to do something different.

Next year going back with the 2 kids so will budget £160 per day.

Yep, pretty much agreed with what I said. Luckily the exchange rate is similar to last year (perhaps a 'little' bit less) and my wife and I (just the 2 of us) were averaging around 250-300 Lira per day over 14 days - this works out at around £100 per day give or take... We did do a lot of excursions though and we (unknowingly) booked them through the holiday rep so did pay 'over the odds'. We also ate out every day although we were on a B&B basis so breakfast was 'free'.

Dave, I hope the exchange rate stays the same (or better - we can wish) or else the sterling budget will no doubt increase.

Hi Chris there are 4 of us 2 adults and 2 kids (7 & 10) we dont cook or make sandwiches in our apartments, we eat out every night and have brunch out every day, kids have cereal, fruit, yoghurts etc in apartment as neither myself or hubby eat breakfast. We also do a few trips 2/3 boat trips and jeep safari (we only discovered jeep safari last year) and manage comfortably on £150 per day this included plenty of drinks and ice creams . This will be our 6th visit to Icmeler

Thanks to everyone for your fast responses we really appreciate your advice,
sounds that we may need to up our budget a little more although some days we will be just lazing around the pool and doing our own breakfast and only going for the evening meal with a few beers so I certainly expect we'll overspend on some days while others we might underspend a little, but can't wait now Icmeler looks fantastic.
Thanks again Chris
