New from Old

01 Jul 2012 14:13

I must firstly make a confession as an avid reader but a seldom poster, I tend to read everything with the exception of the posts on jewellers/jewellery shops  .So I have spent the last hour or so trawling through the forum trying to get some information and I have come to the conclusion that it would be an awful lot quicker to ask my question to you all.

So I have several rings and necklaces and I was looking to get a new ring made from some of the pieces I have.
I really want it to be special(as the pieces I have are sentimental) and to be able to trust the jewellers that does this and that leads me to my question ~
Who would you trust to make you a special piece?
thanks

Cartier Jewellers. Have used them 3 times to make our own design, very good.

Latina Jewellers opposite Romance Palace, i had my wedding ring cut off and took my mums wedding ring which he melted together and made me a new wedding ring it is lovely and i have had a lot of nice comments about it . The jeweller does all the repairs and remodelling for the large shops but of course a lot cheaper, he is a lovely man and his Australian partner Linda is lovely and they have become friends, she also makes individual costume jewellery every piece different and unique would not go anywhere else hope this helps :D

Vidat at More Jewellery next to Avlu 1. He sourced us some amazing diamonds in May and sorted out old jewellery. Taking my SIL's engagement and eternity ring next time for him to fix, really good prices, really nice chap.

Thanks for the replies,I did mention to my OH that I was going to ask about which jewellers would people trust and we jokingly said we will get lots of different answers
Aliral~don't think I am artistic enough to be able to design anything so will probably need guidance!!

Yorkshire...did you know what you wanted made or did they have some sketches for you to look at?

Noodles ~would love an extra diamond or two,but doubt it :( .What do you mean by "sorted" do you mean fixed it or maybe bought it from you?
thanks once again

Fixed for me - I had a white gold ring that's quite chunky and it was very scuffed, still wear it cause it means a lot, but it was starting to look like cheap silver. Vidat restored it and now it actually shines! I'm so impressed with it. He restored all our other jewellery that was blackened and tainted (both silver and gold) and said next time to bring our old broken stuff and he'd make something nice out of it for us. If you're fancying a diamond - go ask him, he doesn't do silly prices, he listens to what you want, if he doesn't have it he'll get it with no obligation, and he knows his stuff. The ring I got was in his window with cubics, he replaced them with diamonds, didn't cost anywhere near what I expected. Nice man, and definitely somewhere I will return.

Hi had no idea what i wanted i was given a catalogue type of thing with lots of different designs, we eventually settled on the design i wanted and then Atilla sized my finger and told me to go back next morning. It was ready and in a lovely box Linda took some photos and i got all emotional and started crying poor Arilla thought he had upset me until Linda explained they were happy tears lol. We were really happy especially with the cost as it was a fraction of the price i had been quoted over here :D

I always bring my own, the wife's and any other friends' gold jewellery for repair in Icmeler as the value and expertise from these old fashioned artisans is amazing to watch - an odd few are even happy to let you watch them work!

I've enjoyed many apple teas explaining what I require.

We've also bought curtains (made exactly as wanted inside two days !) and other cloth to turn into our designs for table runners and other one off presents for friends.

The price to have a unique present for birthdays or special occasions - so much cheaper then here and always appreciated!

You don't just have to buy what is on offer!! - Take some time and pre-effort on your part in a wintry evening to draw out what you want someone to make for you - They love the challenge to get to know you and please you from finished articles... and of course they are making money !!

Star jewellers! It's just round the corner from TinTins which is just further on heading away from the square from Tandoori Sizzler.
Dino, the owner is a working goldsmith and did an amazing job repairing a bangle I'd broken on the way out - fancy clasp that forms the decorative bit of the bangle.
I think he charged me around £25 and managed it with a garbled description and very dodgy sketch from me

His shop's not one of the fancy ones, just very basic - it's all about his craftsmanship and he's a lovely chap

He does a lot of work for the more "flash" looking jewellery shops and is one of the chaps those jewellers take your jewellery to for cleaning/altering

Can't recommend him highly enough
