It depends on what and how people do their job.If they go out of their way then tip well.If they just do the basic job then don't tip so much.If they are useless then don't tip at all.

My hubby says that on average, for a three week holiday we estimate after coming home that we have spent £150 on tips in total. Seems like a hell of a lot of money, but you don't think when you are out there. Perhaps we should keep to just tipping on the evening meal, rather than tip everytime we eat or drink. Just a thought.

The only problem is, that having been going to Icmeler for nearly twenty years now, we know how much these boys earn and feel sorry for them.

I used to tip approximatley 10% everytime but a few years ago I worked out the amount over the holiday and it was shocking at £200+ over 17 days for a family of four.

I now tip 10% or 10 Lira which ever is the lower amount for our evening meal only.

I don't leave a tip if we just stop for one drink.

On all day trips I leave 20 Lira if we have been looked after well.

Dave

I agree with other comments re tipping. If you do an approximate count of what it costs you will be surprised.
We also go for 3 weeks and have always been over generous in the past tipping everyone from the lad who carries your cases, to the guy who cleans the pool, the maids, waiters, bar staff, taxi drivers, boatmen and so on. I keep saying this year I am going to be a little stricter and tip when I think someone really deserves it. Thats my plan anyway!!

Generally if we've stopped for a couple of drinks, we don't tip. For lunch and evening meals we'll leave a few lira up to a 10% or so max. Rather than tipping at our accomodation, I leave the rest of our toiletries - always get decent brands and there's usually more than half left at the end of the holiday, been told a few times that the lovely ladies doing the rooms really appreciate it, and it saves a bit of weight in the cases too. For our regular places, we often leave a larger tip on our last visit of the holiday. No idea what it adds up to, but we spend within our overall limit for the holiday with tips included.

Also - the restaurant lads always appreciate towels, so if you're looking for extra room in your case on the way back, leaving your towels is a tip that goes down well (I get primark ones for a fiver to take over :) ).

In England i would say i am an average tipper if i go out.
However Icmeler is a different ballgame.
Nothing is too much trouble for most of these lads and when certain situations arise they will do anything to help you and for this reason i tip well and enjoy tipping well.

normally give the transfer 20tl as we know them very well now
leave the cleaners something at the end of our holiday if they have done a good job throughout our stay but also leave them the remaining toiletries that we dont wanna take home
for the evening meal is depends where we go but usually tip around 10tl
hope this helps :)

We always tip 10% not only to restaurants but bars etc. As there are five adults and two children this mounts up especially as we go for three weeks. Hadn't calculated it before but from now on we'll do the same as Dave with 10 Lira max for restaurants and no tip for the one drink in a bar. This may mean we can have a holiday next year after all :)
