Just got back from Icmeler :(

19 Jun 2012 22:03

Well just got back from Icmeler late yesterday after a week, and had the best of times, People just the same :D :D Great welcome smiles on all the faces we saw, wonderful food. lots of local wine and Efes hic hic, a couple of sore heads, the weather is roasting touched 49 on Sat, the changes we saw the Square look amazing we sat and watched the world go bye a couple of times. The only thing I did not like was when waking down past Linekers at the far end of the street there was a small monkey tied up and it was distressing to see it in that condition, we decided that we could not walk down that way because it upset me to see it. will put a review on in the next couple of days after I have caught up with the washing. :(

Glad you had a great time and looking forward to your review.

I think I may avoid the Linekers area if they have a monkey tied up. I hate to see things like that and I know I will open my gob if I feel the Monkey is distressed and should not be there.

from the recent remarks, before anyone jumps on the cruelty to animals crusade, perhaps the monkey doesn't mind being on a leash, just like many dogs and cats don't mind. Now clearly if it was a problem someone living in Icmeler would deal with it.

You have to remember that you go to the resort for your holiday we shoudn't interfere with their way of life.

Hi Lee,

If the monkey is just tied up and left in the blazing sun then regardless of what country you are in then I think everybody would see this as animal cruelty. If the monkey has fresh water, food and is generally happy then there possibly isn't a problem. I guess its a case of the conditions and situation before it can be judged :)

Unfortunately Lee, many other countries have far lesser standards when it comes to animal welfare than we do, and many see nothing wrong with exploiting animals in this way. People obviously have the option of voting with their feet on issues like this, but I for one certainly wouldn't frequent somewhere like this - and I wouldn't hesitate to "interfere" with anyone's way of life if I felt animal cruelty was involved, no matter what country I happened to be in at the time.

dj_sploits,

exactly why I said what I did, there are no facts so no need to be avoiding the place

in fact, being such an animal lover I will make an effort to visit this area just to see it. Perhaps offer it a Banana.

Lee,

What happens if you go round with your banana and see that the Monkey is in pain/distressed/unhappy? Do you turn a blind eye or do you say something? I would say something because like you I'm an animal lover and I never want to see an animal in pain, distressed or unhappy.

I'm back in Içmeler 2 weeks on Monday (9th July), I will have it on my list to do to go and see how the welfare is of the Monkey. If everything is OK then pictures will be uploaded on this forum of me and the Monkey, if all is not well then I will be saying something and if that doesnt solve the issue I will have a word with friends around Içmeler to see what can be done to get the Monkey removed or to be placed in better conditions.

Hello my name is Jan and I work for the Icmeler Animal Welfare Charity and you are all welcome to join my facebook group Icmeler Animal Welfare and see what it is we do. This situation with the monkey has evoked a lot of comments and pm to me and recently I presented a petition to the mayor about animal cruelty and the monkey was 1 of my main issues I can tell you we are dealing with this and hope for a good outcome very soon, I can not say to much as facebook can be read by so many and do not want to jeapordise the chance of rescuing him. This animal is not happy and is being mis-treated and I am suprised no one has given the other animal the one who has him on a chain a good hiding like he does to the monkey , please keep adding your comments on here and on my group page and I will show the mayor as further proof of how decent people feel and as I explained to him it will effect what people think of his town. It is not as easy as rescuing the cats and dogs being a wild species I can assure I WILL get him rescued and sent to a happy better home. We have a dogs home in Icmeler and you are all welcome to visit if and when you are in Icmeler thank you all for caring I need people like you in the fight against animal cruelty we are the voice for those who can not talk will try and keep yu posted , Janet Bradley

Can I just clear something up the Monkey isnt anything to do with Linekers and the reason why Linekers was mentioned is that I do not know the name of the street were the Monkey is so used Linekers as a ref. The monkey is at the other end from Linekers. Thanks

Hi Jan, Thanks for looking out for the Monkey it clearly was distressed when we walked past, its good to know that their are people out there looking out for the Welfare of these animals. Hope you get a great result with the Mayor and the Monkey goes to a more suitable home, hopefully the Mayor isn't going to want this sort of thing going on in Icmeler, Good Luck and hope to see in the very near future some good news. :)
