A little reminder for any newbies or people with children...

Postby Chris221273 » 20 Jun 2012 07:27

Make sure if you have children, or if its just yourselves, to turn your roaming off on yours and any children's mobiles.
And also deactivate your answer phone so nobody can leave you a message, as anyone ringing you will cost you a fortune if they leave a message!
Nothing worse than getting home to a several hundred pound phone bill.
We used nothing but wifi last year, everything else was turned off, and the phone cards in icmeler are very cheap and you get a good amount of minutes for about £3.00 roughly as I recall.
It's too easy to forget these things when you're all excited and off to the airport!
Happy holidays everyone, enjoy the beauty that is icmeler.

Particularly important with a smart phone - I forgot to turn data roaming off before I came out of airplane mode on my iphone. Took me all of 20 seconds to find it and switch it off, cost me £1.50 in data download! Those pesky iphones just can't help themselves and search out that data roaming so fast! :)

Settings > General > Network - on here you've got "enable 3G" "Mobile Data" and Data Roaming - I think you only need to do Data Roaming but I turn them all off just in case (and your battery will last longer too!) :D

Hi Chris,
I also noticed a vast Tarif difference between networks   , My wife normally takes her vodafone phone. £1.65 p.m. a call, £1.30 receive call and 35p text...... My phone o2, calling home 81p p.m., receiving call 52p, text 30p.
I think this year we will take My phone. Having said that we tend to use Viber, like Skype it uses wifi, and the recipient needs Viber also, but you call the mobile number, not a contact name. If you install Viber to a Smart phone it automatically can add any of your contacts with Viber to your Viber phone book, the person in the U.K. receives the call in their data allowance.

I will mainly be using FaceTime on the iPhone this year, costs nothing as it only works via wifi and means I can keep in touch with my little one back home :-D

Hi Chris,
Viber is free and used on wifi abroad, I think it can be used on all smart phones, as mines Android.
