Irresponsible Parents

Was in Icmeler from 21st May till 4th June and was disgusted by the actions of some irresponsible parents.
Whilst I was there I witnessed a 6 year old boy being left in the company of a complete stranger whilst his mum went to a different bar. I also saw kids being left to their own devices in bars well after midnight with the staff at the bars actually finding blankets and pillows for the kids so they could sleep whilst the parents just carried on drinking without a single thought for the youngsters.

I also saw one young baby quite obviously distressed strapped in a pushchair and sat next to a speaker kicking out loud music in one bar.

I am not being super sensitive here and I know that for some people this holiday is their only chance to get away but it seemed to me that some people have absolutely no respect for their children and see them as an inconvenience to them getting p***ed until stupid o clock every morning.

Completely agree - yes, being a parent is the most difficult job in the world and we all need a break, but surely the safety and welfare of your children is paramount at all times. Mine are 17 and 21 now, but when they were little, we never left them with anyone else - or alone for that matter. If you're going to have children, you've got to put them first - end of story. Did no-one learn lessons from what happened to poor little Maddie in Portugal, for example?

yes we agree too, our youngest daughter is 21 and still likes come with us, as well as going with her friend later in the year , but no way would we leave her on her own . children are precious no matter what age

Far too many irresponsible parents ignoring the needs of quite small children so they can enjoy themselves. Yes, they need a break, but if they're not prepared to look after the kids, leave them at home with grandparents or other responsible adults. We were in a bar one night when the waiters were doing their dance show, and one little girl of about 2 was wandering around the dance floor on her own while her mother was busy chatting up another member of staff. One of the dancers jumped back and nearly fell over the little girl, knocking her to the floor. She wasn't badly hurt as he managed to side step over her, but she could quite easily have broken a leg or arm. The mother's reaction was to scream at the child - when she eventually realised what had happened. I aslo saw a small boy run out of a restaurant and into the road while his mother was up dancing. A waiter quickly grabbed him and brought him back, but he was inches away from a fast moving car. Again the mother screamed at the child. Babies stuck in a corner of a noisy bar in the early hours is a common sight. We've seen children left on the beach in the "care" of bar staff while the parents go off shopping, or whatever it is they do. It's not bar staff's job to look after anyone's kids. I know they say they don't mind, but it's not their responsibility. Who would be blamed if the kids had an accident or wandered off?

Just this week I heard of 2 responsible (so-called) adults who managed to leave their daughter in a bar when they went home-oh wait........

Hi Canli
I am not jumping on you but being a single parent myself and having taken my children abroad quite often on my own I actually take offence that you are saying single parents seem to be the worst. Although I agree that all parents should be responsible I have seen children from 2 parent families being left to run around restaurants whilst their parents eat their meal and ignore them whilst sitting at the bar getting drunk. Yes I have also seen single parents do this as well.
I dont think we should point the finger and one particular group but say to all parents. Look after your children.

Don't even get me started on this one....

Suffice to say, perhaps if they'd experienced difficulties in having their children they might appreciate them a little more and realise what an absolute blessing it is to be a parent.

Let's not throw all the blame at the poor old dad's.
I for one do appreciate how much effort goes into bringing up kids which is why I always took great pleasure in spending quality time with our 3 girls, especially when they were little. It was always a pleasure to give the missus some time off to enjoy herself on holiday without the "stress" of dealing with the ankle biters. And now they're all grown up they do their share of looking after us. Making sure we get home from Tommy's after too many Efes's lol.

we have a nine year old son who has been taught manners and knows when he is in a busy resturaunt it is both dangerous and rude to be wondering round tables while there is hot food and drinks being carried around, he is quite happy to sit on his ds until his food comes. When the music does start he likes to get up and dance but either one of us is with him or watching him all the time.

an incident that happened when we were there in may was a child of about two having to be dragged out of the baby poo,after he was floating with his head in the water, his mother at the time was chatting the barman up. The same child about an hour later through my towel into the pool, i wouldn't have been that bothered because he was only two but when i went to get it out i didn't get an apology of his mother, also it was about 4 hours before we were due to go home therefore a soaking wet towel had to go into the luggae

Last year we were at apartments and watched a gorgeous little boy of around 2-3 being left to his own devices. His mother did not get up from her linger once ( his dad was v attentive when he was there but never seemed to be).
We, like the majority, are so grateful to gave our three that they are our world and so this really stood out to us.

When we got home, I recognised the mothers review on trip advisor where she had slated the waiters for making a fuss of her son and harassing him. From where I was, those waiters looked after her son for most of the holiday.

Really cannot understand the mentality of some parents:(

A friend was staying at the green nature resort in marmaris last week when a Greek child died after falling 5 floors while sliding down the banister on a spiral staircase .where were the parents

my thoughts exactly! of anyone else had done this they would be the worst parents ever, but the prime minister does it and not much is said. I could never forgive myself if it was me.

Daughter and her friend were staying in apartments in Icmeler a couple of weeks ago, They have two pools - one larger and one smaller, and the pair of them were on sunbeds near the smaller one, as it was quieter there. There was a large family with several children staying there too, but they were all round the larger pool. Daughter said they wer paying no attention to the kids whatsoever, and one very small girl almost fell into the smaller pool. If daughter and her friend hadn't been there at the time, it could all have ended very tragically, as she said the family wouldn't have been able to see the little girl from where they were.

It doesn't matter where we have been over the years you will always find a minority of parents who don't seem to care.

In Cyprus the hotel we stayed in had an adult bar next to the show area/night club, I have seen parents go in there and leave the kids to run riot.

At the same hotel another year mthere was a family from hell and the kids were down right bullies, they were left to wonder the hotel at all hours, I would have to stand in the play area for my kids to use the swing and slide without issues or conflicts, one night one of the kids took a pair of glasses off another kid and deliberately broke them in front of everyone in the entertainment area, for the victims father it was the last straw that broke the camels back and unfortuatley the bullies father ended up taking a rather severe punishment, as the father was thrown from the room a cheer went up.

In Turkey we have been fortunate not to see too much, I have seen one family evicted (Granny, Mother and 2 boys)from the apartments for the lack of care from the parents regarding the kids (The eldest of 11 got drunk every night with his mother), they would leave the youngest (5) home alone in the apartments during the day expecting others to watch him, he was obviously OK as he was wearing a kiddy life jacket, it was a pleasure seeing her escorted from the property.

No wonder a minority of our youth today behave the way they do.

my goodness!! those poor children! it shocks me how people can fail tyo take care of their own children
yes everyone wants to enjoy themselves whilst on holiday, and so they should, BUT, no matter if on holiday or at home, or anywhere for that matter, children still need looked after and their needs met.
Taking part in activities with our children when on holiday are probably the best bit, sitting in a bar drinking and ignoring the children does not come into it.
Those children are not going to have very good memories of their holidays when they grow up are they. I have been on holiday before and there has been the typical family there who think they have nothing better to do than to lie and sunbathe whilst everyone else takes care of their children and stops them falling into the pool etc. They always seem to be the loudest famoly there as well

We saw one of the 'familys from hell' last year after going through departures.
They were on the same transfer as us and were sat behind us on the coach.
They had 2 children, a girl of about 12 and a boy about 10.
The kids were so excited and bouncing around, and the way the mother & father spoke to them was disgraceful.
Every other word was the f word. "You wait till we get to our hotel, we're booking an f ing plane and sending you little c word plural back home, you're not spoiling our f ing holiday.
This went on the whole way back. At Marmaris they had put on a minibus to take those staying in icmeler direct, and it was us and the other couple. The swearing continued and we were glad to be dropped off first.
Sadly it wasn't the end of it, we got out and got our baggage, and the guy went to check his bags and saw he'd left one on the coach. That then created world war 3.
He was swearing at the bus driver, who didn't speak English, and then started on the guy in our hotel who had stayed up to greet us.
At that point the guy started swearing more, saying it was everyone's fault.
In the end the guy at our hotel walked up to him, face to face and said "Listen to me, I can give you the number to get your bag back, but you swear at me one more time, I give you number for good hospital"!
That ended the swearing straight away!
But I did feel for those poor kids. We saw them once more while on our holiday, well, we heard him first, then saw them! Swearing away, and kids looked so sad
Some people just don't deserve to be parents!
