This backing from the banks is an extension by three years to pay their debts because they're in difficulty.
If they hadn't had the agreement from the shareholders to sell off its investments in a Spanish hotel business, the sale and leaseback of some of its aircraft and to sell its Indian business for £94m.they would have gone into administration. According to the information sent out to shareholders they wouldn't have got further than 15th June 2012 if they weren't able to do the sell-off. The problem now is will they find the buyers they need? Hopefully they have them lined up ready but I doubt this in the current economic climate. The other worry is that banks can withdraw their backing at any time (as they recently did to Peacocks which was a successful business).

I think it's a case of watch this space. Just hope everyone booked with a credit card as we can all claim for consequential losses if the worst comes to the worst.

If you've booked 'flight only' the only number that you can ring if you need to speak to anyone is 0844 855 0515 and it's a nightmare to get through and most of the time you get cut off. If your flight is now with a different company they will not deal with any enquiries at all not even the need for wheelchair assistance at the airport. You have to contact the other company but I should have though that you should have been informed of the change but then nothing surprises me after the last few weeks with TC. We're now with Onur Air and as they're not answering the emails either we have to ring them apparently in Turkey.

Anyone know if, as we booked with TC with 20kg luggage will it still be the same with Onur Air as they're usually 15kg. Normally I would think that as we booked with TC we'll still get 20kg but they're refusing to have any dealings at all and saying that it's nothing to do with them now even though as legally our contract was with them.

I booked flights with aegean over 12 month ago and was lucky enough to get my money back i paid £145 each for 3 of us then had to pay £270 each with thomas cook

I hope you claimed for the extra cost via Section 75 of the Finance Act if you paid by credit card and had booked direct with Aegean Flights, the CC is liable for the extra costs of £125 per flight.

Just wondering since we are also booked with TC for September.....

When we booked our insurance, we chose the Platinum option which covers everything, and one of those was to do with your flights. Has anyone ever went down this road with an insurance company, and how long would a claim like that take?

Sorry can you clarify what you mean? If you mean extra costs after Aegeanflighst went bust section 75 only covers credit cards purchases.

Just dug out my policy booklet, it looks like we wouldn't be covered as any booking with a scheduled airline which is bonded doesn't get covered. Looks like we'd have been better booking our flights with some two-bob cowboy outfit that wasn't bonded by ABTA

Sorry Dave, I was referring to the holiday insurance that I bought. We are covered up to £1000 for the failure of a scheduled airline (hooray), but only if they are not bonded (and TC will be bonded - booooo).
