Newcastle Airport-Duty free

Postby Lee » 31 May 2012 12:28

HI,

Never purchased alcohol before from the airport to go on holiday with but after you check your suitcases in and allowed through the waiting area, can you buy the alcohol at the duty free and put it in your hold luggage? if so is there a limit?

I wouldn't mind taking a bottle or two of some spirit to enjoy on our apartment balcony or by the pool :)

i found this which should help:-
Duty Free Exemptions apply for the following items purchased before your arrival in Turkey, and unless stated, you must be over 18 years of age.

•200 cigarettes plus 10 cigars plus 200 gms of tobacco to include cigarette papers. OR
•200 grammes of pipe tobacco or 50 gms of snuff or 200 grammes of chewing tobacco.
•1 x 1 litre bottle of wines or spirits.
OR
•2 x 70 cl bottle of wines or spirits.
•5 bottles of perfume not exceeding 120 ml each.
•Personal gifts to the maximum value of €300 and €145 for those under 15.
•Other beverages: Coffee beans (1kg), Instant Coffee (1kg), Tea (500g), Chocolate (1kg).

You may also purchase additional items: 400 cigarettes, 100 cigars and 500g of pipe tobacco at the duty free arrivals store.
Remember duty free allowances change, so please check before you travel.
i got this info from this website http://www.taxfreetravel.com/Turkish%20 ... Allowances
remember you can also buy duty free on the plane and also from the duty free shop at Dalaman airport.
Once your cases are checked in, anything that you buy has to go into your hand luggage that you carry onto the plane not your hold luggage which is your suitcases that are checked in and put in the hold on the plane.
hope this helps.

Don't know about other airports but as far as alcohol is concerned it's cheaper in Cardiff and Bristol than Dalaman, the only problem is that you have to carry it :(
