Long Stay Visa Permit

Postby SarahLou_86 » 12 Apr 2012 21:39

Hi all.
Me and my friend are coming out in May, we are aware with the tourist visa from the airport we can only stay 3 months in one go, and hopefully all working out, we would like to stay longer than this.

I have been reading up on residency and its somewhat confusing.
Do you have to apply for residency for up to a year, or can you just get a 6 month residency permit, as that would most likely be the length of time we want to stay.

Thanks for any help in advance :)

I think you will find that you can get a 6 month residence visa. However since the introduction of the 90/180 tourist visa on 1 February 2012, there has been a further change and if you wanted to stay longer than the 90 days (in the 180 days) you can apply for an extension which is similar to a residence visa. However as this is all new and as yet no-one will have applied for one (as it came into effect on 1 February so 90 days would be towards the end of April) I'm not sure how this will be done.

All very confusing I'm afraid.

I have seen a link somewhere, I will try and find it.

Just found a link

However, as I said previously, no-one has been able to apply for this extension yet as the new tourist visa hasn't been in operation for 90 days, so the extension is not viable yet. From what I've read elsewhere, it seems its the same procedure as applying for residency with the same or similar forms to be completed, money in the bank and the to-ing and fro-ing to the port police, tax office and then back to the port police.

To be truthful if you are staying in Turkey for more than the 90 days then maybe you should really be applying for residency anyway.
