Taking Spirits into Turkey

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can give me an answer into how much spirits can you take into Turkey as we enjoy a quite drink before we go out or when we get in.

Officially, I believe it's 1 litre each. Guess if you pack it carefully in your hand luggage to keep it safe in case you trip in the airport and your mother taught you the fine art of "making your hand luggage look very light so the man in customs doesn't stop you" then you can take your chances on a tad more?

Manchester Airport has always told us you can take 5 Litres each - have never taken that much as too heavy to carry but have taken 2-3 litres each for people we know in Icmeler and never had any bother on arrival in Dalaman.Have never found it that cheap in Dalaman Arrivals TBH. Only time we have been restricted to 1 Litre each was when we went to Rhodes for the day - they will tell you in Rhodes you can take as much as you want back but try taking more than 1 litre and it will all be taken off you when you get back to Marmaris - but then the Turks & the Greeks have never got on!

You are now allowed to buy only 1 litre of spirits at duty free on arrival in Turkey and your passport is scanned when done so you cannot go back in and buy again

You can buy spirits on the plane. But only allowed 1ltr I think.

You can buy what you want on the plane and in the UK duty free;s as they are all on commission and just want you to buy

I don't know what would happen if you did get a tug on the way out of Dalaman airport as I have never seen it happen

Saw 2 girls getting pulled over with several bottles proudly displayed in those almost clear duty free bags. They were quite loudly expressing their distress at losing it all, couldn't really fail to be drawn to their predicament!

Has anyone had any past experience on trying to taking say two litres of spirits in per person and getting allowed in, as I wouldn't want it to be taken off us on arrival as that would just be a waste

Not sure if you'll get anyone to admit to that, just in case! All I can say is my mother taught me well (see above!)

Just returned from Lanzarote, one of the passengers on the plane was questioning the duty free allowances and how much the airline would sell them.
The stewardess said that they would sell any customer however much they wanted. It was down to the individual customer to decide how much they were prepared to take the chance and sneak past customs at the airport.

Different circumstances. If the alcohol is bought within the EEC there is technically no limit provided that you can prove that it is for personal use. The British government a few years ago were challenged as they were using a limit which was illegal within the EEC. There was a compromise and the limit is now 10 litres per person which is reasonable as I suppose 10 litres would be the maximum you could carry as the bottles are now made of glass and are so heavy. As Lanzarote is in Spain there wouldn't be a problem.

Going off the subject I can't understand why they've gone back to glass bottles as a few years ago the bottles were mad of plastic. Doesn't make sense to me that I can take a glass bottle on the plane which could cause serious injury if used as a weapon but they take away my nail file

Thanks for that John. I'd assumed that they were the same as they're in the EEC. Out of curiosity I just spoke to European Health Insurance Card helpline (the old E111) to see if the medical treatment within the EEC was different in Lanzarote as well as the duty free anomaly. Apparently anyone going there is covered the same as the rest of the EEC countries and even the two people I spoke to were surprised about the Duty Free. You live and learn

as turkey is outside the EU then the restrictions apply as in 1lt for spirits in and out of the country
travelling within the EU you can take as much as you want into UK as long as you can satisfy customs that its for personal use only

The answer to the question : How much sprits can you take into Turkey is = 1Ltr per person.

You can purchase as much as you like but any excess should be declared at Customers.

Most people usually take the risk of taking more than their allowance and in all the years that I have travelled into Turkey last year was the first time I was approached and requested to put our suitcases through a x-ray machine,fortunately not our hand luggage.
