Thanks for prompt reply Kalof.
Yes any photos would be great and it does not matter if you or JT post them first.
I am sure we all just appreciate seeing them while we are tucked up freezing at home.
We are booked for the 11th June for 12-days in the Kapmar Hotel.
Been there before and loved it.
Only 87 work shirts to go. :D :D :D

Walked down to the beach today (ably assisted by a very strong wind!) and noticed that work has now started on the former Bamboo site at the bottom of the canal, which was demolished a while ago - JCB's were digging up the base so looking like a landfill site at the moment. Maybe in the next couple of weeks there will be something to photograph !

PS Weather forecast for tonight is very stormy!

Well we had a VERY stormy night last night - quite a bit of storm damage this morning, the beach area looks like a hurricane hit it, debris everywhere. A huge dead turtle was washed up (featured on TV News tonight) and the jetty where the taxi boat goes from by the Aqua Hotel looking very damaged - the gales were along the coast line from Antalya, Bodrum, Marmaris, Turunc and Datca.

However back to the canal shops - today the landfill site is flattened (changes from one day to the next here!) and there are white lines drawn in the ground and red and white tape marking out what I presume will be the new buildings. I did take my camera but the threatening clouds rolled in fast so I made a hasty retreat back and glad I did, a humdinger of a thunder storm which resulted in electricity being off for 6 hours!

Thanks for the updates. Sorry you are having such horrible weather and the added nuisance of no electricity. Hope spring is not too far around the corner!

Cheers Chris,

It sounds like you are having some horrendous weather out there at the moment.
Thanks for all the updates.
So you think that their will be some market stalls on the canal again for 2012 :o
Time will tell and we will be back ourselves in June for 12 glorious days.

Update on canal shops - concrete bases down and today metal poles being welded to form the individual units. Looks like shops in a "horseshoe" shape facing the beach (if that makes sense?).

Can't promise to take any photo's in the next couple of days as there are more storms forecast :( but as soon as I can I will.

Walked to the centrum a couple of days ago, its starting to take shape but not really much to take photo's of at the moment, apart from half finished concrete structures.

The pics are very interesting. It will be nice to have some shops/stalls back in that area, but I do think the Bamboo will be missed.

Wow - only need a couple of sunny days and it's all systems go! The pics in the photo gallery now all have a roof on and they have been sectioned out with brickwork - looking like there are about 20 shops in that one row and they have now started on the next block facing these putting up the metal posts.

Walking along the canal from the Majestic towards the beach all the old pavement has been taken up and replaced with same as on the promenade so looking good! Would imagine they would do the same on the Venice side. So I think you will like the look of all these changes this year!

Will take some more photos in a couple of days, cos it will all have changed again!

Thanks Chris and for your photos....my how quick these construction guys are  Total opposite to here! Just read back through all the posts on here and realised that there is always a plan that we arent aware of! Great stuff.Canal area being repaved and hopefully all our favourite canal traders based in the new shops.Have to say we have been impressed with everything the town has done.It all seems to be to attract more of us there.Look forward to seeing the changes in the flesh! :D
