Hi dejavu,
From the Tansas, go to the Azra jewellers, turn right and go past the Romance and Babadan apartments the Hanaden is on your right, before you get to the Lal and "new" Three Bells on your left.

Thanks to Janeypoos and Stevew for the directions. I now know where it is - on the right before you get to Nefis Pide (another old favourite).

I hope you do try it, you won't regret it that's for sure.

Another place that does lovely pide and kebabs is Kayra Pide, I don't know if you've been there before but the food is out of this world and so cheap, although this was helped by the fact my husband is Tukish so we were given the Turk menu instead of the tourist menu, lol!

We ate there 6+ times and couldn't fault it at all. It's nothing fancy, just good honest food.

Is there any suggestions of Turkish food I, or anyone else, should try the next time we go?

Do you mean the actual dishes or places to try?

I thought that's what you meant but just wanted to make sure before I bored you with my favourite dishes :-)

Soups (Corbasi, pronounced Chorbasi) are very popular and most good Turk food places will have some lentil or vegetable soup on the go. We always start with lentil soup, most places will do half bowls so it won't ruin your appetite only whet it for what's to come :-)

I love all sorts of kebab (not always meat on bread, some kebabs are cooked in sauces much like a casserole and some are more like a tray bake) and pide (Turk pizza) is excellent, especially topped with cheese (peynir) and Turk salami (sucuk, pronounced sujuk)

Lahmacun (pronounced lahmachun) is wonderful as a snack or even a main, it's small round flats of lavash bread covered in a meat, onion and parsley mix and baked. You put a line of salad on it, roll it up and pop it in, normally only 2 or 3 mouthfuls (for me anyway, lol) so you'd normally get quite a few per portion.

Kofte (meatballs) are also a must have. Many different varieties, again some are dry and some come in a sauce or yoghurt.

I'm not a dessert person at all but I do like kunefe, it's very sweet but also has the strange but delicious (to me!) addition of mozzarella cheese. This dish is a speciality and is widely found in most eateries.

I'm making myself so hungry now thinking about all these dishes! I'm making beef sote with bulgar pilav for dinner today and I'm going to Kizkalesi (Mersin in 12 days time so I've not long to wait before I'm tucking in to some lovely Turk yemekli :-)

Oh janey, my mouth is watering reading that lot! Completely agree - Turkish food is absolutely gorgeous and there is so much variety. I love the casserole-type kebabs you have mentioned - the Testi kebab, which is cooked in an earthenware pot and sealed with dough, then broken open at your table, is delicious.
A favourite of mine is Hunkar Begendi (Sultan's Delight), which is a creamed aubergine puree served with meat on top. The one at the Wayside is absolutely fantastic.
We tried the fish baked in salt for the first time this year (at the Bonjour) and it was fantastic. I hate finding ever the smallest of bones in my fish, but the staff assured me they would make sure all the bones were taken out - and they were true to their word! The fish stays beautifully moist and doesn't taste at all salty!
I also love the slow-cooked leg of lamb you get in most places (although like the fish in salt, you usually have to order a day in advance). The meat is so tender is just melts in the mouth - delicious!
Personally, I think Turkish food is really under-rated - most people tend to think it's just the doner kebabs you get in this country, and are amazed when you explain what a wealth of different dishes there are.

We take lahmaçun with us on our return journey so that we don't have to pay the ridiculous prices in the airport. We usually buy ours in Nefis Pide and they're always lovely.

Blimey, this is the wrong thread to read at this time esp as i've had no tea tonight haha
Have to say I LOVE turkish food - it seems sooo much easier to do in Dalyan than Icmeler as most of the restaurants we go to there are traditional rather than multinational cuisines
Hugar Begendi has to be joint favorite for me along with Sac Kavurma and Testi kebab!

Never thought of having lamuchun cold, but thinking about it, I'll bet it's amazing! must try some for the airport takeaway on our next visit!

We ended up having it at deja-vu as they know us quite well so it was easier to organise a cake which was nice> I would recommend Deja-vu but be careful on the Deja-vu special pizza, normally i'm alright with spicy foods, it doesn't bother me, but this pizza actually made me cry, was nice though :D

Sounds like you had a nice time. Where is Deja-Vu? Say compared to the main square where the cash machines are.

if you head right from cash machines in the square and head to Tansas
Turn left at Tansas and keep walking along there, past junior school on your right and you'll come to DejaVu after a couple of hundred yards - it's facing you at the junction

prob a 5 min walk from cash tills
