Altinkum - o no!!

Postby bould99 » 06 Sep 2011 20:00

After many visits to Icmeler decided to have a change (well my husband did!) so we are off to Altinkum on Monday. Am now getting worried as i love Icmeler so much and know that i will compare the two!! I hope we will not be disappointed. Anyone been to Altinkum? Any comments?

Well, we're in a similar situation - couldn't get flights for Dalaman for the dates we needed, so after many visits to Icmeler, we're off to Alanya next week. I'm just looking at it from the point of view that at least I'll get to see a different part of Turkey, and I'm determined not to try to compare it with Icmeler too much. Just try to tell yourself it's NOT Icmeler and won't be the same, but you're going to enjoy your holiday anyway - that's what I'm doing. :D

Hi bould99,
holidayed in Altinkum about 15 times between 2000 and 2008 and stayed at the same hotel on all but one occasion.Loved it there.Year after year meeting the same people,English and Turkish.Last couple of times we did find Altinkum getting a little "tired".Certainly in need of a facelift with bars and restaurants wanting to change their presentation somewhat. To a new visitor my views might not mean anything and I would certainly not want to put anyone off going,in fact reports have it that quite a lot of money is due to be spent on Altinkum in the near future.Having stayed in Icmeler in the late 90`s we went back in 2009 and loved it.We will return to Altinkum in the future.

We spent two weeks in Altinkum three years ago, only because we wanted to go to Ephesus and that is much nearer. Apart from the grotty hotel we stayed in couldn't fault it. While you are there, if you like history, do not miss out on Ephesus, well worth the trip, a place you will never forget. We have also had two weeks in Alanya and although for us it did not match up to Icmeler we had a good holiday. The thing to do is as you say, do not compare and enjoy what you find. Hope you all have good holidays.

Altinkum has lost what charm it used to have - the local council is far more brutal in removing anything they can't tax.

They change the rules for turkish local businesses every year and it's becoming a nightmare for them to survive.

The hassle is tremendous as there are so few people walking round at night. We went last May time arouns the whitsun week and the whole resort was dead - we knew where to go and who to see, but most places were dead, closed or no entertainment on.

A lot of the people (and friends of fifteen years standing ) have no idea how to attract new trade into the resort.

Icmeler seems ( to me) to still have so much more to offer, but still needs to hit the mark to keep families, couples and solo people entertained, not just trying to catch the young girls with muscular flexing - so funny to see the newbies (first timer females) who fall for the young lads' attentions.

Sadly, the service to those with some money to spend is lost when we can't get served and then leave to other venues where spending power is appreciated!
