Dalaman Airport weighing your case.

Postby Chris221273 » 21 Aug 2011 10:29

We were in the queue with a couple infront of us with a child who were struggling with their cases.
I asked if they'd weighed them and they said no.
I had my scales in my hand luggage and they were both over their 15kg limit.
So after a bit of moving stuff into the little ones case they were just under.
So I know we've all said on here check your bags, do weigh them.
That couple were lucky as they had no money on them at all!!

I thought you could combine, so it wouldn't have made any difference aslong as the total weight wasn't above their allowance.

well, that's if the child had its own seat on the plane - if its a baby and sitting on mams/dads knee, then I don't think it would have an allowance.

Things may have changed but I believe the above to be right.

Yes, if you are travelling together and have a luggage allowance they do combine weights. Still it was a lovely gesture as you didn't know.
Behind your ears should be getting quite dry now lol!

Not every airline will let you combine weights - some insist the weight allowance is per person. We have seen people being caught out in this way before. Check the terms and conditions with your particular airline first.

I think you have been mis-informed as I have flown with them a few times and they combined weights with my travelling companions. I went on the website just to check if it was still allowed and this is what I found:

Baggage
Hand luggage: must not exceed 5kg in weight or 43 x 28 x 23cm in size.

Checked: there is no free check-in allowance. You can add hold luggage of up to 20kg, subject to a fee which varies according to destination. Passengers can combine baggage allowances provided that individual items do not exceed 30kg.

I've also heard of people having problems combining their weight allowance on the return flight - they've been allowed to do it on the way out, but been charged excess at Dalaman. I've been wracking my brains trying to remember which airline we flew with who wouldn't let you combine baggage allowances, but can't remember. I know the woman in front of us at check-in spent ages arguing with them on that issue, but they stuck to their guns and insisted the weight allowance was per person. We also saw a few people having their hand luggage weighed this year, on both the outward and return legs.

Acording to info that came with my tickets it states( your luggage allowances are independent of each other & can NOT be combined together )? I can only advise with info at my disposal hope this helps. Pete

Thomas Cook:

Passengers on the same booking reference can combine their baggage together as long as any one case does not exceed 30 Kgs. This is due to Health and Safety reasons for the baggage handlers.

Not sure why your tickets say this as it's clear on their website.
