Don't wish to sound like a grouch, but you're on holiday. Why take a mobile with you???

Mine is often ringing with work getting in touch and the last thing I want on jollies is to think about (let alone speak to) work.

Its the only time in the last 12 months that myself, wife and kids are going to be together just the 4 of us so no-one is going to disturb that.

Roll on Sept and leave phones at home peeps :D :D :D

Martin Lewis ( money saving expert) mentioned these problems this week in his websites weekly e-mail.

Anyone who hasn't signed up for these e-mails really ought to give them a try.

We take ours so we can be contacted easily in the event of an emergency - either by our kids or if anything happens to our now elderly parents. Other than that, we don't really use our mobiles on holiday.

Sue I've not had a chance to read it yet but if you don't want to use your phone at all the turn roaming off.
When you say mobile network is that where you can select manual or automatic network choice? I'd set it to manual because sometimes it'll automatically set to a network with far higher charges. Happened to me years back and all my credit was gone within the first few texts!
If you call your mobile company or look online you should be able to find out what networks will be offered to you in Turkey and also what services those networks provide (photo/video messaging etc) and what they charge.
I did this yesterday, I'm on Orange and I'll manually select Turkcell when I get there.

Hope this makes some kind of sense, lol! :-)

Oh I see, lol! :-)

I can do that on mine but the network selection thing I mentioned before is worth doing.

Do you know you're roaming costs for your internet though because even though you have an allowance are you sure that's included when abroad? Most aren't. I have 1300mb a month but if I was to use it in Turkey it would cost me extra, that's why I'll only send a couple of texts, lol!

the 500mb is only for use in Uk, when i go to turkey i will switch roaming off so it will not search for any other network, and work on wifi, just wondered if i need to turn off mobile networks also, i probably will do to be safe, dont know what you mean about the manual settings though, i only have 02

I usually just put my phone in airplane mode. This turns all data and calls off but still lets me use the wi-fi
