Icmeler or Marmaris - late booking- help!

Postby billb » 02 Aug 2011 10:41

Hi all, first post so apologies if going a bit over old ground. The wife and I will be coming out in a couple of weeks time ( 12 Aug for a week ) and are torn between Marmaris and Icemeler. We're early 30s, and the ideal holiday for us is a bit of chilling by the pool in the morning, a bit of wandering in the afternoon, and then out for some dinner, a few drinks and a good spot of people watching at night. We were in Bodrum last year ( in October ) and it was perfect for us. There's obviously loads to do in Marmaris, and we don't mind too much if its busy, as long as not too much in your face ( ie I don't think we'd be spending much time on Bar Street! ). We're just trying to get a feel for how busy or quiet Icelmer is ? We've found a really good deal at the Fantasia Hotel which looks excellent, and note various comments about plenty of bars and restaurants in Icmeler. When we try to have a look at various photos on the web and google maps etc, it does make it look very quiet ( eg is the seafront all taken up by hotels and no bars/restaurants ? ). Apologies for questions that have probably been answered before, but going round in circles a bit. Looking like our hotel choices are coming down to Fantasia in Icemeler, or Marbella or Royal Maris in Marmaris ( although for the Marbella it's not possible to confirm a seview room in advance ).
many thanks Bill

Hi Bill - for me & my hubbie there would be no choice to make. Got to be Icmeler every time, especially as it sounds like you spend you days and evenings in a very similar way to us. We were there in June and it was quieter than years gone by but I think its the same everywhere this year due to the economy. We cant wait to go back for our 2nd fix on 3rd Sept.
There are so many nice restaurants and bars to choose from including some very nice ones on the sea-front although you dont need to be there to people watch. We go to a lovely place called Diva Bar and have enjoyed sitting there watching the world go by many evenings. Some bars are a lot bigger and noisier than others but there is something for everyone. If you like peace and quiet while you chat over a drink then try Magic Garden or Eddies Bar.
The Canal area is a lot quiter since the stalls where removed.
We stayed in Marmaris in 1997 and also tried Hisonaru in 1998 but since finding Icmeler the following year no-where else will do.
Wherever you decide on hope you have a great holiday - at the end of the day its what you make it!

Would choose Icmeler of course! And Fantasia is lovely, never stayed there myself but have taken a stroll inside and it was beautiful! Would love to stay there!
Fantasia is on the beach, excellent location, you can either walk on the promenade and choose one of the many restaurants for your evening meal or go to the main street (maybe 100 meters walk behind the hotel) and catch the dolmus to Marmaris.

Hi billb

No contest - Icmeler.

You can still visit Marmaris by either dolmus or water taxi or if you're feeling energetic you can walk along the seafront. The harbour area is lovely to walk around and the bazaar an experience (lots of hassle though) but to stay in Marmaris it is very much 'in your face'.

Like all the others it has to be Icmeler. Marmaris is ok to visit but am glad to get back to lovely Icmeler. I couldn't stay in Marmaris. I know of several people who have holidayed in Marmaris, visited Icmeler and was hooked and now it's Icmeler every time- they wouldn't even consider Marmaris now.

we have been going to Icmeler for about 7 years now and a few years ago we had to stay in Marmaris (at very short notice) as our holiday company went bust as we love Icmeler so much we spent our day getting up and catching the dolmus into Icmeler every day staying there then going back to Marmaris to get changed then go back to Icmeler for something to eat at night, what I'm trying to say is that for us there is no contest Icmeler everytime, Im sure you will enjoy it as you sound as though you are looking for what Icmeler has to offer :D

I have had holiday's in Marmaris and they have been enjoyable and i've had some great times but Icmeler does it for me. I always said why would anybody want to go to the same place everytime. They must be crazy its a big world with so much to see. That is until I found Icmeler 12 years ago, fell in love with the place infact I fell in love with Turkey. I cannot get enough of the place and I have no desire to go elsewhere. When I am in Icmeler I am home.

Hope it helps

Icmeler for me too everytime. I have stayed in Marmaris and since finding Icmeler would not want to go back to stay in Marmaris. Icmeler gives you the best of both worlds with easy access to Marmaris by dolmus and water taxi at low cost. :D :D

Hi billb,
Take a look at http://www.icmeler360.com you will 'see' why it's Icmeler and no where else.
You can also walk past the Fantasia and along the 'Prom'.
Enjoy Steve

Icmeler every time. We went at Whit and stayed at the Fantasia. Location is great with Main areas for bars about 300 mtrs away this gives you the best of both worlds easy to walk to bars but quiet at the hotel if you want to chill!. You get beach towels supplied every day and padded sunloungers by the water only have to walk across the promanade. The food at Fantasia is OK but not brilliant but there is always something you can find. Salads & Deserts are great it is just the main courses which were not to our liking. Drinks are expensive but next door there is a bar that sells large Efes for about 5 tlr was £2 for us when we went but would be even cheaper now. You can not take food & drink into the hotel but this was no real problem.
Went to Marmaris one day by boat found it sprawling, busy & dirty in comparison to Icmeler which is compact but interesting and very clean & tidy---------------Looking forward to going back next year --Bliss :D
